Got a small gift

#1

Post by akaAK »

Just wanted to get on here to say a big thanks to the SFO for including a small gift with my most recent purchase. I picked up an EDC Forum GITD Manix XL, a Swick 4 and another B70 Mule (since I have been buying mules I have bought two of each except for this one for some reason, my OCD would not allow it). Long story short but the SFO sent a G10 Cat along as a gift.

I was lucky enough to pick up a good example of the CF Chicago years ago but have never really carried it as I usually prefer longer blades or less bulk on a small knife. This the similar but bigger brother to that knife. The Cat got put into my EDC rotation, the handle is comfortable and has some weight to it which I prefer, the blade length is just about right and it came very sharp. It reminds me of a value Chaparral. I don't have much experience with 440 but this will be an office or work bag knife so won't see any real hard use unless I run into some super extraordinary circumstances. I can't imagine it will have an issue with the cutting it will be required to do. The liners are relatively thin which is consistent with my Chicago. The pivot is the standard one from this factory which looks large (I think the S was made there too).

This gift is a strange coincidence as I recently had to put one of my cats down and then got this Cat in the mail. The cat that was put down was fascinated by my incessant opening and closing of knives while relaxing. So much so that I was always on the look out as he would show up immediately and want to rub his face against whatever knife I was playing with. It has been weird because I still watch out for him when I start opening and closing knives while watching TV (never wanted him to get cut, he was pretty stealthy) a hard habit to break after 6 years.

Thanks Spyderco and I will update the thread as the knife gets used.

Great story and very cool of SFO. Sorry to hear about your cat losing a pet is tough. Now you have a nice new Spydie to remember him or her by. Thanks again for sharing.

Cool story, but heartbreaking re the kitty. Not many things rougher than losing a friend like that.

Very cool story, man. I feel for your loss with your cat. Nothing hurts like losing a good friend/pet. My condolences...

Thanks for sharing. Spyderco rocks!!!

I am a dog person myself but I have unfortunately been down that road a few times. My avatar is a dog I lost four years ago. I still cannot let go. :( Losing a pet sucks. It isn't fair, they should live longer. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for all the kind words all. Appreciated. I have always been content with the fact that my pets have good lives while they are alive. All four of my cats (over the years) have been rescue cats who were at risk of being put down. They got a lot of extra years.

The cat has been a fantastic addition to my rotation. As expected the 440 is holding up well and I haven't needed to touch it up yet (most likely due to the light workload).

That Cat was a nice gift. I have a Cat that has jimping on the thumb ramp and the choil. The fit and finish are excellent. It is one of my favorite pocket knives. It has done everything my Chaparral has done. Enjoy yours.

As mentioned the Spyderco Factory Outlet.

Usually a pretty good place to find those hard to get items. I had been looking for awhile for the GITD Manix XL and the SFO is the most reliable.

Nice puppies. They quickly become part of the family don't they.
