Native 5 size increase

Post by gsapatka »

I would love to see a Native 5 in the size of the Manix 2 XL.

Your thoughts...

I think there already is a large Native 5 with a compression lock prototype.

There is a Manix2 sized Native in the works.

Welcome to the forum.

I actually liked the back lock Manix. I love a stout backlock with a full flat ground blade. In fact, I think the Military would be a better knife with a stout back lock, too.

There are few Native family knives in works: Lil Natives with 2.5" blade, Shaman with 3.5" blade and Native Chief with 4" blade. Nobody knows, except Spyderco when and if any of them became production reality.
As far as I know, there are many people cannot wait to see Shaman.

Still didn't decide about this model. I love Damascus, but billboard size 40 ruined it for me

Hi Gsapatka,

Welcome to our forum.

Hey Doc Dan,

One of the core requirements for the Military design was very light weight. We hadn't invented the Compression lock yet so the Walker Linerlock was the best available. We spent a great deal of time developing the model. Bob Terzuola was my teacher on the lock. He taught Lester DeAsis and I to make Linerlocks in his shop in Santa Fe.

A Lockback Millie would indeed be stout, but I think we'd opt for a lighter lock like the Compression or Stop Lock in keeping with the spirit of the light weight design.

Roman, I actually kind of like that big 'ol 40 on the Native. :o But, I do think it would be cool to see a standard version of the Anniversary model in the Thor Damasteel that has a "clean" blade without logos for those that intend to make it a user.
