What is your favorite version of the Spyderco ParaMilitary?

#1

Post by Archimedes »

I had one, plain Jane version of the ParaMilitary with S30V with Camo scales. I liked it. It was pretty much new in box. I just gifted it to a great person in need of a knife for a backpacking trip. I want to pick up another one. I am leaning towards carbon fiber scales.

Just for fun, and to help me on my hunt for a replacement, what is your favorite version?

Elmax for me. There are some nice new sprints/exclusives coming up if you feel like waiting.

My current favorite is the KnifeWorks exclusive Dark Green CTS-204P version.

I assume you're already aware of it, but if you're after carbon fiber scales, I'd say your best bet is waiting for the upcoming M4 / Carbon Fiber exclusive from KnifeWorks for sure. I have a feeling it will be one of the fastest selling versions to date though, so good luck...

An original Paramilitary, S30V of course, with dinosaur jimping.

I'd love to track down another m390 PM2 ....really sorry I traded mine away

If there was a PM1 in Cruwear or m390 I'd be done with my endless search for "The One"...it would be like the castaways finally getting rescued from Gilligan's Island ;)

I also like the 204P best, although I do have the m390 but haven't able to bring myself to use it yet. A close second would be s110v.

My favorite is the S110V version of the Para2, at least until I can get one of the M4 versions. But I like my S30V version with rit dyed scales too.

I'd love to try the 204p version but that boat has sailed :( . I think the best PM2 currently available is the "blurple" s110v, mine gets a lot of carry time and is great value :)

My favorite that I own is still my first PM2 that replaced my CPM D2 PM1, also have an S35 version but just love the slightly customized and well worn look and feel of my first one. (started out as black G10 with black DLC)
I will also get one or more PM2's with M4 but my new favorite that I don't own yet may just have become the PM3 since I held it at the Spydiemeet..
(eventually a PM3 with M4 for ultimate favourite?..) :D

For looks it would have to be the black and orange CS exclusive, but I've tried to rotate the s110v out of my pocket and I can't make it through a whole day and It's back in...love the steel, and it has the best action out of all my PM2's, seems like I can just think the blade open or closed, so I'd have to go with the blurple, which would get a close 2nd in the looks dept anyway, I personally really like that color.

Another blurple vote. I've only owned a few PM2 variants to compare with, but this one has the best edge grind and F&F. It would be nice if it were a little more of a true blue color, but I'm not complaining.

I'd say my BBS Elmax, just because it has better action than the others I own or have owned...

Great choice. The M4 Carbon fiber sounds tempting but I struggle with M4 as I like a good stainless steel on my folders. I don't like staining or Patina. I will have to think about that one.

I can't say I love the Blurple.

I have heard great things about the M390 steel. This may be a direction I go if I can find a fair deal on one.

If you can get over the stainless requirements it will open up a whole new world for you. There's just something about high carbon steels...

I can't wait for the M4 Paramilitary!
