Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
I'd love to have scales like that on the standard Nilakka but otherwise I'd rather have a larger Nilakka than a smaller one, and even more than that (and probably more than anything else so far) I'd rather see a Nilakka sprint in Super Blue or 1095 or 52100 etc.

Yup, I was thinking pretty much all of that! I love the scales on that mini, but 3.5" is probably a better length for something so slicey. And yeah, 52100 would be a great steel for a sprint I think!Evil D wrote:I'd love to have scales like that on the standard Nilakka but otherwise I'd rather have a larger Nilakka than a smaller one, and even more than that (and probably more than anything else so far) I'd rather see a Nilakka sprint in Super Blue or 1095 or 52100 etc.

Seeing the 'Lil Nilakka makes me realize why I don't like the regular one - the scales! They're too thick. And the color isn't great either.

Nirvanna is absolutely gorgeous piece. I wish I can afford, but nobody wants to pay money for 59 years old kidney

The Pattada is a must have......I really like it a lot.
And as said before, would really love to have the lil nilakka scales for my standard nilakka...

Love seeing these sub 2.5" blades. The lil Nilakka looks great, I really like how sleek the closed profile is!
I also really like the Pattada, though it's definitely bigger than what I'm used to carrying. I like the heritage behind it and that it's being made in Italy as well, Nice touch! :D

Hi JT,JT wrote: First, congratz for the design and the result! I like it very much!
I apologize my comment about you not ever meeting a lefty.. but I get a bit annoyed every time I see a cool "I want that" Spyderco, just to realize it won't work so good for lefties. Techno is another good example.
Maybe we can get a 1000 run of lefty version of it? :D
Thank you for the kind words. No apologies are necessary, my friend. I understand your frustration regarding limited left-handed accessibility. Fortunately, I am thinking that the production model will be able to be modified to allow greater access to the Round Hole from the left side.
Thank you, SG.Spydergirl88 wrote:Great looking knife Spydernut!

Does anyone know if theer will be any PM3 photos in this reveal? (pretty much the only reason I'm monitoring the thread)....
Thanks...
Thanks...
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
That Nirvana I still consider very appealing. For me it is almost as sexy as an knife can get. All the esthetics are right. However when I handled it I did not fancy it in hand. It doesn't seem to be choked up in grip, which I don't like. It doesn't feel natural for me, but that is IMHO.
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
I'm really hoping to see them every time new pics are posted but we won't know until they're here or they're not and all pics are posted..wolfgaze wrote:Does anyone know if theer will be any PM3 photos in this reveal? (pretty much the only reason I'm monitoring the thread)....

My guess would be that they should be allowed to get posted since I don't think they should be too far away from production but that's also some wishful thinking I guess.
Any which way this thread shouldn't exactly be a pain to monitor..

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Native 5 40th Anniversary
In a way, the Native 5 40th Anniversary knife has been teased about for a few years by the Spydercrew. We have seen a few concept models with fluted carbon fiber handles before. I’m very happy that now we’ll finally have a go at a (limited) production knife with this type of handle! The knife felt very light in the hand, and the Native 5’s great ergos were enhanced by the contoured handle. The blade is stunning. I’m usually not big on Damascus blades, but this one looked great. The pattern seemed very well defined to me, and it actually seemed to have a few different shades of color when I tilted the blade in the light. The laser engraving looks nice and sharp too. It’s a stunner, and I’m happy I got my pre-order in. I advise you to do the same ASAP. This will probably become a highly collectible spydie in the future!

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Peter Carey Magnitude
Finally, a proper full-sized Peter Carey design! When handling the knife, I thought it was a custom made prototype. I was happily surprised to learn that this was actually a production sample. As with Carey’s previous collaborations with Spyderco, the Magnitude exuded that custom look and feel. This should be a good working knife too. The edge is ‘lowered’ meaning it kind of lines up with the knuckles in a forward grip, which –to me- makes for a nice ergonomic using design. The Magnitude, like the original Rubicon, is thicker than other spydies but I didn’t notice any sharp corners. This one’s high on my wish list.

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Gayle Bradley TAC 1s
Apparently, the TAC 1s was Gayle Bradley’s first attempt at a tactical folder design, hence the abbreviation which stands for ‘tactical folder 1 (for) Spyderco’. The flipper seemed a bit long, but it worked very well and it offered a good guard when the blade was locked. I liked the contoured finish and surface pattern of the handle scales. The knife looks straight and metallic, but with those two design features, the thin TAC 1s handled much better than you’d expect from its looks. The TAC 1s looked like the type of tactical folder you could carry all day in a suit or regular clothes and forget you have it on you, until it’s needed.

Wow to Gayle Bradley TAC 1s with 3.66" blade of CPM-M4, weighing just 3.52 ounces and made in Taiwan!
