Spyderco Schempp Bowie ?

#1

Post by NickHeadHunter »

i created this topic so I may ask questions from some users of the Bowie. Becuase i would like to purchase it too, but I when i buy i knife i would like to use it as such. So my question is that has anyone used it as an "outdoor" knife like skinning game, making feather sticks, Food prep and such? and how was your experiences with the knife.

Thank you in advance for your replies

Hi Nick. Welcome to the forum. You asked some interesting questions. I have the Schempp Bowie. I love the blade and think it's a good choice for any blade lover. However it doesn't strike me as one I would use to process game. Feather sticks, probably. Mine is more for collecting, so I can't speak to harder use like you are asking about. In my mind, I would think other blades designed as hunting knifes would serve better in that role. I'm not saying the Schempp Bowie can't serve in that capacity, but I wouldn't do it with mine. If I were using a blade in the dirt and blood, I would prefer a blade with a more conventional drop point or leaf shaped blade profile and a flow through handle design. I wish I could speak more to answer your questions. Good luck making your decision.

Mine is relegated to camping duty. Does a good job with general food prep and making bigger sticks into smaller sticks.

Skinning game? I believe it to be a big large and unwieldy for that.....great for hacking a chicken in half, removing fish heads, etc., though.
