Dragonfly: ZDP blade into stainless scales?

#1

Post by noddy »

Something has been tempting me

I really fancy a stainless steel Dragonfly with a ZDP blade. But I am a bit adrift on models and compatibility

I have the ZDP one, but have yet to get the stainless one

Does anyone know if the swap doable?

Thanks for any help :)

Nope, the SS model is not screwed together. It wouldn't be an easy swap.

It isn't impossible, if you really wanted it done and knew a knife maker or someone who would take on the job, it can be done for a price.

Plus the stainless has the old style still - might not even fit.
- best wishes, Jazz.

This is probably correct. The SS is a Dfly 1 (original) and the BRG ZDP Dfly is s Dfly 2... Find yourself someone to make some nice custom scales for a G10 Dfly 2 and swap your ZDP blade into it! ;)

Those look very nice! Who makes custom scales for the Dragonfly 2?

Cuscadi (Germany)
Sketchen Scales Customs (USA) (If I remember well the below Dragonfly in wood are from him)
ShepardCC: Custom Knife Handles/Kydex anything & everything (USA) (not sure if he do stuff on the Dragonfly...)

May be more but names do not come back to my mind ^^

Hi, sorry I missed your question! Nasgul pointed you to the best three scale modders I've dealt with (although there are certainly a few more out there, no disrespect!). Steve Ketchen gets the vast lion's share of my custom business these days, and does absolutely fantabulous work, the best I've ever seen! He made the Koa scales above.

Speaking of Cuscadi as a complete aside, I saw on Instagram today that their shop had been broken into and all the knives and scales stolen!! :( They asked if anyone sees their scales up on eBay or the forums in the near future to contact them and let them know, so they can check to see if the ones for sale are stolen goods. Yikes!

Cheers, Radioactive :)

Thank you for the follow up!

I saw the news earlier about Cuscadi. Terrible! I hope the thieves get what they deserve!!!
