We're planning on it. The past 4 attempts have not worked. We have 3 new materials we'll be working with this year and the plan is that at least one of them will work.

Factory seconds of the failed attempts would be pretty sweet as long as they didn't end up as dust. :P

Well, just seeing what materials were used and how they turned out would be nice, too.

I don't own a single Chaparral "yet" but a bronze, copper or C-tek would change that with a quickness...

Bronze and Copper have a lot of following right now in the EDC community. I'd love to see something like that on a Chap.

My only concern is that the Sage series was supposed to be a yearly thing, but we're only just now seeing the 5.

At least it's a compression lock. Maybe one day it'll have a Tri-Ad lock 0.0

Absolutely. I was very glad to hear the 5 will be a comp lock. I own all the sages, and love the comp lock, so this is a no-brainer.

I'm a great fan of my Chaparral 2, my current EDC knife, and I am planning on getting the carbon fiber one soon.

I know that bronze, brass, and copper are all the rage in the EDC world right now but I am not a fan of those materials for scales. The properties of those materials do not make them particularly well suited as handle materials. (Too heavy and too soft.)

Although I too appreciate the traditional look of a bolstered knife, I think a modern design like the chaparral is ill suited for such a treatment. To me it is like putting wood panels on the sides of a Ferrari. (Bolsters would look quite good on something like a roadie sprint with a higher end steel...and staghorn scales.)

I'm not as concerned with what the new material will be, but am hoping the next iteration takes the chaparral more fully into the third dimension, more like the Slysz Bowie, the upcoming Mamba, or dare I say the Benchmade Griptilian. I want a thicker chaparral.

Agreed, lots of good Cu pieces out there right now, I like the patina that's developing on my schempp bowie. I just ordered a Cu maratac flashlight from mass drop, really like the way these parina. I think a solid handle Cu chap would look awesome after some handling. It will probably never happen but one can dream. I've also been thinking about grabbing a set of Cu scales for one of my PM2's.

How about brass liners and bolsters? Combine this with ebony or rosewood scales.

Or, titanium liners and bolsters with diamond willow or purple heart scales?

I definitely do not want a thicker Chaparral. That's a main selling point of the current versions, its thinness.

Something else that would look awesome would be pine cone (pick color). Perhaps blue?

I'm looking forward to a new Chaparral in the sub-$200 range. I think a wood scale would be nice, or brass with black inlays, also has anyone tried a Damascus type handle scale in a production knife? I think that could be really nice looking and could work just like the current titanium scales..in theory.

It would be a shame if that bronze Chaparral didn't make it....It was truly lovely in the hand: weighed a lot, like a fine Victorian Hunter fob watch.
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

A "gentleman's" chap with bolsters and a traditional handle material would be nice. I'd buy a couple to gift.

Thicker and heavy are not to be desired in such a knife. Slim and light, that's the ticket.

Hi Sal, the simplest way is with photos.

This would have been elegant....
Image
Schempp Persian and Kris, Micro Dyad, Kiwi, bolstered CF Caly 3, and that beautiful Stretch you sent me would all be examples of knives with elegant bolsters as well.
Agreed. If bolstered, those examples are perfect. A short bolster would be beautiful--combined with any material. I'd prefer an acid washed or stone washed Titanium bolster with Lightning Strike CF. :D
