Eccentric Pivot Pin Adjustment
Eccentric Pivot Pin Adjustment
Your catalog and web site include several references to the eccentric pivot pin offered on the Military Model, the Centofantes, and others: “The C36 has an eccentric pivot adjustment for wear and an offset arc ramp for secure lock up”; “The pivot pin can be adjusted to customize blade action” (C25 & C50). However, nowhere have I seen an explanation of how this adjustment is accomplished. I just bought a C25 through your web site (discontinued! figured I better get it before it was too late). It is just the right size, very nicely made, and takes an incredible edge, but there is a bit too much slop between the scales and tang, and the lock already scoots 80% of the way across the lock up ramp. I know I could send it back to you for adjustment, but it is hard to “customize” an instrument like this without some direct involvement. I also realize that the adjustment may require special tools or fixturing, or maybe even some grinding of the tang where it hits the stop pin in order to maintain the right blade angle. (Also, how do you make sure the ball in the lock continues to properly meet the detent on the tang when the blade is closed?). Anyway, is it possible to adjust the pivot pin without special equipment? As an aside, I was expecting a black clip on the C25 after seeing the picture in your catalog, but it came with a shiny stainless clip (too flashy – I need something a bit lower profile). Is it possible to get a black clip from the SFO?
Hi Grdaniel. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.
We use a purpose built tool to adjust the pivot for wear. There is no grinding. In fact grinding would probably ruin the knife.
It might serve you best to shoot it to Spyderco and get the adjustment and the black clip at the same time.
