The Double Bevel
Hello all,
I was passing through my local B&M and came across a Double Bevel. First impressions were good; loved the open design and how light and slim this model is, but I wanted to know if any one carries one of these models regularly and what their experience sharpening has been? I think it would be a good knife for my off days, and is competing with a Kiwi 4 for the next knife I buy. Actually any input on either would be appreciated!

Re: The Double Bevel
It's a cool knife and I'd like to have one one day but it's one of those I want to handle first. Sharpening seems to be the tricky part not only because of the two grinds but the tanto style blades take longer too.

Re: The Double Bevel
The one instance I held had a very even edge grind along the whole length of the blade, even at the transition point between grinds. I have been try to wrap my head around how to sharpen the tanto point...

Re: The Double Bevel
A trick that I use, (as silly as it may be) is to wrap the whole blade in tape EXCEPT the tanto tip while sharpening. That way I can focus on just the tip alone, instead of having to worry about crossing into my freshly sharpened straight edge portion.spyder_happy wrote:The one instance I held had a very even edge grind along the whole length of the blade, even at the transition point between grinds. Just my typical daily tasks, cutting fasteners, boxes, tape, scoring marks in material, occasional wire stripping, etc.
As much as I like this knife as is, after seeing another old thread here, I might want to pick up another Double Bevel and have someone reputable regrind this to a near ffg "single bevel".
And most of my uses I seem to do alright with the "Americanized tanto", although the point wears quick and a bit cumbersome to sharpen. But, I think a regrind like in that other thread would be primo! This thing carries so slim, packs good blade length into a small modest handle, and my particular knife is VERY smooth!

Going back to Caly.
