Para Wrap SPOT Tutorial.

#1

Post by CKE »

Patogordo asked how I cord wrapped my SPOT the other day so I thought I would post it here. I have never done a "lesson" before so bare with. Oh and some of the pics are a bit blury. Hope you enjoy I much prefer the new colour para cord opposed to the yellow.

Before you wrap the SPOT put it is its sheath.

1st I took 7 feet of 1/8 climbing rope. Loop it like in the photo. Make the piece that goes towards the butt longer than the piece going towards the blade.

2nd Pic is where the loop should go on the handle

3rd>Take the short end and run it up towrads the blade. Take the long end and start to wrap around the handle. Make sure to keep the shorter piece in the center of the handle. This first wrap is just to make the handle thicker. (Striders idea)
4th pic> Base wrap is completed.

5th> Start the Strider wrap. The reason I chose this way to wrap my SPOT as it would give the handle a lot more to grip than just using the basic wrap from above. It is just a simple twist with the ends of the para cord.
6th>Flip the SPOT over and repeat. Back and Forth

7th> Flip the SPOT over and repeat like stated above making the twists tight together when flipping the blade over. Makes for a nicer looking wrap.
8th> Last flip and twist

9th> After the last flip and twist wrap the ends around the left over bit on the handle and run them through the lanyard hole.
10> Finished. From there all I did was shorten the ends and burn them to seal the para cord.
I hope you could follow what I did. Since I have wrapped my handle I have not stopped carrying my SPOT. I was working in my rec room downstairs setting up my stereo and surround sound and it is an amazing little cutter. Great for all the speaker wire I had to split and strip. This is definetly an under rated . I highly recommend one. Now off to the garage ot get longer screws so I can attach a small Tek Lok to it and carry it on my belt. Take Care and thanks for looking

Very nice job on the SPOT CKE, and a great photo-tutorial on how to do it. May have to add yet another to the "want list" after seeing that. I had wondered if anyone had tried wrapping one, as the open handle design fairly cries for it. Now that I've see it, I want one too.

I decided to take this and make it a PDF, thinking it would be easier for me to referrence, and decided to share, except I can't figure out how to post it.

I hope you don't mind (CKE).

Thanks,
Chad
