what would ancient people think of Byrd knives?
Here is a fun little "fantasy thought": Let's say you were to somehow transport a crate full of assorted Spyderco Byrd knives (Cara Cara's, Rescues, etc) back in time to some people in an ancient culture, like Medieval Europe, or ancient China, or ancient Polynesian islands. How would people back then consider them compared to the knives they had? Would they be in awe as if it is magic?

The Polynesians would be amazed as they didn't have steel or much in the way of mechanics.
As for the others... Medieval Europe and ancient China were already pretty good at steel and knife production. Europeans and Chinese might have valued the stainless properties, and maybe the folding mechanism. But other than that? Byrds certainly wouldn't have appealed to their sense of aesthetics.

They were intelligent and capable... Our presence is the firm evidence

As said, Polynesians would think as highly of them as they did of steel tools and weapons when they were first exposed to them. They would certainly be amazed. Any other culture familiar with metal working would be impressed with the technology, but they wouldn't be likely to make a new cult over them.

This is exceptionally decent and good post...You shook posting it...Thanks a great deal for posting it...!!

I would think that any folding knife in dark age Europe would have been seen as a stealth weapon for assassins since they're much more easily concealable than daggers or fixed blades.

Byrd folders have so many modern attributes that were unattainable in medieval times, that smart people from then would have been blown away. Precision metallurgy, miracle lightweight yet strong plastic handles, steel that resists rust, and those impossible tiny screws with stars in the heads. Besides, how was that odd hole made in the blade?? A bushel of Byrds dropped on medieval Europe would have altered history.

Magic. Including the boxes.

With knives it's nothing. Here your mobile phone - this will be a shock to ancient people

Re: what would ancient people think of Byrd knives?
Forget about Ancient People and what they think.....It wasn't that long ago....knives did not have pocket clips, knives did not have spyderholes, Knives did not have FRN, or Serrations (unless you had the original Ginzu Knife or a good made bread knife.......) They did not have uber steel or even good ways to keep them sharp....and there was only one kind of lock for a folder for some time.....So in my short life....I'm still in awe as to where knives have gone in the last 100 years....Medieval Europe, wouldn't be popular and the armor and shields wouldn't have been kind to the Spyderedge.... Ancient China, naw they would never buy it, specially since it was made there.... Ancient Polynesians might have liked them, just as tools or necklaces maybe? ......Doc :p

You know the funny thing? If you google for "FRN knife", there aren't many, if any companies using FRN as a handle material. FRN is some amazing stuff, I love it.
Maybe they're just calling it something else.
