Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
Another vote for the Tuff. It's pretty unique which ought to make it sought after by collectors in the future.
Lionspy is probably another good collectible, especially if the Lil Lionspy becomes a greater success than the original.

Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
I have been right and been wrong but not over a 10 year span. Best plan is to always get a good deal on the front end and never plan on anything but breaking even if you have to sell. Never buy based on what "the market" says because if you get stuck with one you don't like it is no fun.
Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
My thought is any spydie that's typically bought to be a user will end up being rare as they will likely be beat up or unsellable for the most part. That being said, not sure whether that will make say a Tenacious for example, sought after. I'm not really concerned with it though, I use all mine and expect to just hand the survivors down...
If you're wielding the sharpest tool in the shed, who's going to say that you aren't...?
Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
There is one thing that will help ensure good demand down the road: small production quantities.
I don't think the PM2 will be hard to come by down the road. There's just too many of them. That sprint with the special steel that you just had to have may help, or may not.
Unique blade shape will help. The Southard is probably going to fetch decent money if they ever disco it.

southward also came to my mind. Forum knives always fetch good money. I always pick up 2 of any forum knife that interests me.
Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
I read a book recently called the Black Swan (about how we are consistently unable to predict monumental events), where the author contends that part of the issue is that we never bother to go back and look at our previous predictions to see how we did.
I remember seeing a thread of this nature in a random search I did way back when, but was unable to find it. I did find this one from 5 years ago, though. So, I suggest we take a look back and see how we did with our previous predictions.

I think all the superblue models will be very collectable. People will want to put the whole frn run together and finding NIB versions will be a very difficult task as these models from what I've seen have been users for most people

I might want to try to find the wood handled Spyderco Sage. Spyderco only rarely uses wood, and it might be a hole in people's collections in the future.
Just a thought,

I'd say those brothers had pretty good prognosticating skills...
especially the ones who predicted Barong & Khukri

elena, at the time the Phoenix was the MOST I HAD EVER paid for a knife...I think it was around $180...elena86 wrote:It's allready my sought after knife: Phoenix
I never blinked an eye because it was unlike anything EVER produced by a knife company:
i. It has a very unique & cool lock
+
ii. titanium bolster/frame
+
iii. custom collab. with a total class maker
+
iv. white micarta ( not very common )
+
v. impeccable fit/finish
+
vi. most importantly, but very subjectively, I WANTED IT
The sum of all that = GRAND SLAM
Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
That they did, that they did. Obscure definitely equals later desirability, as there are fewer in the wild.
I'm not so sure about the Tuff. One the one hand, it's pretty niche, and the only spydie in 3V. On the other it does seem like there's a pretty good following for it and plenty of models out there.
I think the S30V Technos will have some collector appeal.

Re: Your predictions - Sought after knives in 10 years
Generally the weirder the more desired years down the road. That or some of the designers/collaborations that are very popular.
The Captain was never very popular and it's collector market languished for a while, now they are in the mid $200 range and prob up to $300. The Barong however quickly sold out at discontinued prices for about $85 and then shot to $250-300 almost instantly.
Also remember that some of the most "nagged" ( :p ) models return in 10-15 years. This often puts a damper on collections if profit is your only goal.

you're right...bad form on my behalf...elena86 wrote: What are you doing?Stabbing me again and again ?! :)
I poorly attempted to verify that you had good taste in wanting a Phoenix, but it came off as bragging & pouring salt in your open wound... :o
please forgive me!

The C42 is an even better Viele design. I've ended up with 3 and just one Phoenix (which doesn't see much use, but I admire it from time to time)elena86 wrote:It's allready my sought after knife: Phoenix

I have 2 kidneys, but otherwise a nice offer;) The Phoenix has also been used quite a bit so it isn't quite as valuable as a kidney...

Farid K2. I am betting this knife is very limited. Just a guess, like others said you have no way of knowing.
I had a Spyderco Kris years ago and sold it as it was not really my thing. Now they are super rare and sought after. I would have never guessed.
