Wiha Torx Screwdrivers

#1

Post by Revival »

Ok so Mad Rook's nano oil thread reminded me that I need to get some Wiha Screwdrivers. As I like to overthink these things, I cant decide if I want to get the Precision screwdriver with the torx bits or get the set of the individual torx screwdrivers. They are priced about the same (around $30) but still exploring my options.

For those of you with the Wiha screwdrivers, which one do you have? Any of you have experience with both? Im sure both will be fine but I need help making up my mind.

Pictures are always great :D

this is the set, which I use for my knives
http://www.amazon.com/Wiha-36392-L-Wren ... a+torx+set
it is about $15 and has all drivers, which I need from T6 to T20

I have the same set as bh49. It's fine, if used properly. However, there's the temptation to use the driver on the short leg of the handle, especially if a screw is reluctant to turn and, especially with the smaller sizes like T-6, doing so makes it much easier to damage a screw. The other issue is that it lacks a T-5 driver and some of the new, smaller, Spydercos have T-5 fasteners.

Same as Roman and Paul above. Well constructed and precision ground. I have had zero stripping issues with any of my fasteners since purchasing these.

I have a t6 and t8. I don't need the whole set. They work well and don't strip screws.

I like that 11-piece kit. It has the T5 that a lot of the other ones lack. I've been seriously considering a Wiha set, but just haven't clicked on the "Buy' button yet.

This is the other set I have been considering too. Not Wiha but Wera. From my understating, Wera is just as good as Wiha but I haven't owned either so I don't know. Its has the T5 too.

I like a screwdriver configuration as it helps prevent over torquing. I purchased the Wiha 26799 8-Piece Torx Screwdriver Set.
The eight piece set includes T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10 drivers and a canvas tool roll.

I just ordered this Wiha screwdriver set. I started looking only for torx bits but opted for this one with common, phillips and hex in addition to a perfect size set of torx bits for pocket knives. I have an Eagletac flashlight that uses hex screws for the clip screws. NOTE: The threads on two Eagletac flashlights clip screws stripped out. I have them epoxied in there now. :( Anyway, here's the set I got on Amazon. Anyone have this set of something similar. I was actually going for the single torx screwdrivers but this set caught my eye. The reviews were very good. The reviews even included detailed pros/cons about these tools. The reviews on inet purchases I've come to read a lot.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000W ... UTF8&psc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Been wanting Wiha's for quite a while. Hope this one works out. :)

Personally i like a bit holding driver with various bits. You can change the bits if you don't like them or buy others to suit your needs and they are cheap to replace. When a regular screwdriver is done it is done and you have to buy a replacement. Wiha is a very good brand, with Wera i got a mixed results - sometimes they rock, sometimes not so much. Lately i started using PB Swiss Tools, very good screwdrivers and bits, but they are a bit pricey.

I got the L set that everyone else got, but it seems too small.

I got one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NZ8K40/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and I really like it.

I like this set too. It has 99% of what I ever need for pocket knives. I might need to get several sets of different types (all Wiha :) ) so every need, everywhere is covered. I could even get a set for the bathroom in case I'm ever in there and the need arises for a torx screwdriver. :D

I do like the individual drivers though. Makes it a bit easier when needing different sizes.

You just never know, your idea sounds perfectly reasonable to me. It's always easier to reach for a spare than it is to find a tool. :D

I liked these Wiha drivers and an equivalent size set of Phillips/slotted drivers I bought at the same time. More recently, I got tired of my collection of odd and worn full size drivers so I bought a Wiha 53398 screwdriver set. Great quality, but these things are built like a tank and weigh considerably more than what I have. As long as they are used to drive screws I'll never wear them out.

I ordered my Wiha set on the 21st on Amazon. I just now got an email stating the package has shipped and I got a tracking number. I don't know why it took 4 days but that seems pretty poor to me. Not a biggie really. We aren't talking organ transplant or anything. :) I was thinking I'd be able to use the Wiha's to reassemble my Worker sprint which I made bocote wood scales for. I put the first coat of polyurethane on the scales 3 days ago I think. I sanded that after it was almost dry (7 hours) and applied a second coat. The second coat is taking forever to dry. The directions on the can talk about the first coat being dry in 4 hours and not to use the item for 24 hours after the final coat. Now I'm thinking it might take 3 or 4 days to be completely dry. So I might still be able to use the Wiha's. :)
