Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
stretch hands down. The choil is a cut out finger slot where the cutting edge of the blade meets the handle. Allows you to choke up on the handle by moving your index finger forward a bit.
Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Stretch for all the reasons listed. My favorite EDC.
Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Both models are essential in my rotation, models that I actually prefer to use everyday over much more fancy/expensive knives and IMO it warrants to try both instead of just settling on one simply because of the polarized responses here. Some love one or the other, but many love and appreciate BOTH.
Plus, they are in a price range where you should be able to sample both.
I've shared details on threads and even started a few on the Stretch/Endura in the past. Not going to repeat myself but the Endura is Spyderco's best seller for many reasons and the Stretch has a cult following that is growing fast, hope you share your feedback here after you USE them :)

Stretch:
It's one of the thinnest ground Spydercos and is a slicing machine.
Noted for its superior ergonomics .
Location of the opening hole, while produces a hump some dislike, makes it very easy to deploy in all conditions and with gloves.
It's length is still manageable for utility tasks. Good compromise between small and large EDC.
I def utilize the finger choil so it is a plus for me. Some dislike it.
Pivot area is thicker and liner/FRN surrounding it is wider so it should be more sturdy.
Endura
Slimmer profile makes it friendlier in the pocket. Carryability and weight at four inch bladelength is unmatched on a edc.
Very good ergos also. No hot spots.
Blade length fit for tasks requiring the extra length. Great for food prep. GREAT hiking and camping folder.
Length gives it better capability as a defensive blade.
Mass produced so it is cheaper. Comes in more options such as serrated, colors, and SS.
Im able to use the ricasso area as a finger choil though less safe.
Still widely available in VG10. VG10 Stretch may be a ways off because of the update.
Haven't heard of any pivot "roughness" issues like some batches of the ZDP Stretch.
Stretch is better all rounder but I carry the Endura more because of pocketabity and added length. At home though, the Stretch does most of the work.
There, I repeated myself  :D

Stretch is a better design in my opinion.

Exactly, and having one allows you to choke up a bit more on the knife, if you wish to do so.Evil D wrote:archangel wrote:Thanks guys. What do you mean by 50/50 choil? Don't know this term, can't find it in the dictionary either, and there's neither any listing in Spydiewiki, nor in wikipedia... :o
This is the half handle/half blade area below the pivot where your finger goes, hence "50/50 choil".
The Stretch and Military in this photo have 50/50 choils, while the Endura does not. The photo also gives you a good idea of the relative sizes of the Stretch and Endura.

I will be the odd man out and say Endura. If there is any way you can go to a knife store and try each - I think that would be best.
Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Get both, of course. But get an Endura first.

Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Looks like it's going to be a stretch. It costs a few bucks more, but I like the shape of the blade, the fact that it is shorter, and I like the 50/50 choil on my native, so that's another big pro for me, too.
E4 will have to wait till summer. I'm notoriously short on cash...
Thanks guys! *thumbup*

Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
put a Leaf blade on a Stretch handle and yeah, but until then Endura (and preferably Caly 3.5)
Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Update: Stretch PBRG has been ordered. *thumbup*
That's going to be my sixth Spydie - a UK Penknife found its way to my hands about 3 weeks or so ago.
Six is a good point to freeze the collection for a while. Too many bills to pay for too little income. But that's ok. The Spydies I own (and the others) will make me happy every time I get to play with them, and use them.

If you will look at this photo posted previously above you can see a place where your finger can rest on the bottom rear of the blade. That is called a finger choil. 50/50 means it is part of the blade and part of the handle.

Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Congrats on the Stretch, it's been my favorite utility design for many years now. Also, I have a heck of a time getting a good grip on an Endura4, the ergos somehow just don't match my hand well - so for that reason alone I'd recommend the Stretch over the E4.

I know we can never be 100 percent sure but anyone have a general ETA on the G-10 Stretch? Will it be a ZDP blade?
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.
Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
It will be ZDP but when is hard to say. I believe Sal said that the maker could only make 100 per month so they are waiting until they have enough on hand to actually release enough of them. That should mean soon.HarleyXJGuy wrote:I know we can never be 100 percent sure but anyone have a general ETA on the G-10 Stretch? Will it be a ZDP blade?

Re: Stretch or Endura - which one to choose?
Pretty sure it will be a ZDP blade from the proto-type photos and past talk about the knife. Also, remember a post where I think it was said that they are in production and when enough units are complete they will ship.....no idea on that but I'd guess probably sometime in the fall ......if not sooner. But have zero inside knowledge on this......purely a guess.HarleyXJGuy wrote:I know we can never be 100 percent sure but anyone have a general ETA on the G-10 Stretch? Will it be a ZDP blade?
