White scales
White scales
Why are white handles so scarce ? I think the only one I have seen is a Kopa and some older Rescues on one of these threads . I Would really like to own several :) . Custom scales cost as much as a knife so they are out.

Re: White scales
There was a run of a Endura/Delica/Dragonfly/ Ladybug done in white FRN, plus a Goddard Jr and Jess Horn in white Micarta AFAIK. I have all these except the Horn. I'm not sure of other white Spydies but I'm sure others will chime in on this. Cheers, Radioactive :)

Re: White scales
You beat me to it, gbelleh. :D
Re: White scales
I understand they have offered some in the past but it would seem to be a natural especially for the Enduro / Delica that they already offer in a bunch of colors. White scale black blade Stretch or Manix or ? makes my mouth water :)
Re: White scales
I would imagine the reason is white scales would be near impossible to keep clean looking. Not high on my priority list but I know it would bother some. I like the idea myself mostly because it could make for some really cool RIT dye projects.

Now, if only those would glow... :D
One other white Spyderco, though really just a variation on the white Delica, is the Tom Sachs "NASA" edition, with a red NASA logo on the white handle, serial # on the spine, and Sachs' signature on the blade. Only 100 made, and very expensive!

Someone has one of the NASA versions for sale on eBay right now with the low price of $1250 (no bids yet)! :eek:Tom Sachs, an artist living in New York with works featured around the world, is also a Spyderco fan. He requested a white Delica in a CombinationEdge for his creation of the "Space Program" a full scale reconstruction of man's first walk on the moon with Tom's twist. It debuted at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, California in September of 2007.
Inspired by Tom's enthusiasm for white Spydercos, we've created a collection of some of Spyderco's classic designs in white. The White FRN Delica, Endura, Dragonfly and Ladybug will be available for a short time and in limited quantities.

Re: White scales
That Tom Sachs order page says the Delica 4 has been to/used on the moon.
I wasn't aware of two things:
1. That the Delica 4 was around during the moon landings.
2. That we have been back to the moon since the 70's.

Re: White scales
The white Delica 4 was used in a re-creation of the moon landing that was part of an art exhibit in Los Angeles back in 2007. His description is misleading and not particularly possible, as you noted, and these knives have not actually seen any lunar activity.
A further description of his art installation is described here: http://www.tomsachs.com/exhibition/space-program" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: White scales
The grey G10 used is very light and I would imagine that with just a small amount of use it would be difficult to tell white g10 from grey g10.

Re: White scales
Yeah I used to have one of those older ENDURA models with the white FRN handle. it was a really handsome folder too. I also used to have the AUS-8 Jess Horn model with the White handle/scales. I don't remember very many folders with white handles that Spyderco made.RadioactiveSpyder wrote:There was a run of a Endura/Delica/Dragonfly/ Ladybug done in white FRN, plus a Goddard Jr and Jess Horn in white Micarta AFAIK. But again that Endura was a nice looking folder and I ended up trading it to my best friend at the time who has since passed away and I have no idea what happened to the knife. I think you might talk to the DEACON because I believe there might have been either a KOPA or KIWI model that might have had white scales.
