Make it a Dodo with a wharncliffe and 86 the reverse S. Just my opinion. Wharns are where it is at for edc and the original Dodo could not stand alon for me. I found needing a second knife. Same with the Pingo, I need a tip. The Dodo is ergo perfection to me but it looks at that Yo2 and just screams "Oh, me so wharrnie!"

I know you have good intentions TBD but I respectfully and vehemently disagree with you. Let the Dodo be a Dodo and if you have an intense love for Wharnies there are a lot to choose from even in the main line up. The Yojimbo 2, The Des Horn and several of the older models should easily fill the void in that department. The Dodo is just simply a blade in it's own league and to me it would be a crime to elminate that genius and useful Reverse S blade design of Eric Glesser's.

Now I wouldn't have any objection to Spyderco making a Wharnie with a handle similar to that of the Dodo>> but to me that would be like taking the C-111 Captain and trying to make it into a full blown Hawkbill or a stubby recurve  The original design of the Dodo needs no modification at all and I wouldn't want the bigger one to be altered in any way except in size and scale. If you want a Wharnie then just go check out all of the ones Spyderco has>> there are plenty of them already.

From what you've said I would think the Yojimbo 2 would be a dream knife for you.

I like the handle of the Dodo better than the Yo2 and the wire clip better too. The vision in my mind would be more LBK that the Yo and basically just a Dodo as is without the hooked tip. I am probably the only one

A wharncliffe Dodo could be pretty cool, and I'm not opposed to seeing one, but I'd love to see the dodo come back in it's original form. It just seems like a classic Spyderco design, and the newer collectors should get a chance to experience the Dodo. :)

I like them both, so I got them both, and now I use both.

Honestly though, at one point before I used the Dodo much, I had considered looking for another Dodo and seeing about getting the blade ground down to a little wharncliffe... but then I realized just how well it works exactly as it is. So after realizing that and combined with the difficulty of getting myself (affording) another Dodo, I never crossed that thought again.

I'll most likely be getting a BNIB Dodo in the next few weeks once I can save up the money for one, so I'd like to know what you think about it. What tasks can the Dodo do well, and what can it not do so well? I just want to hear people's thoughts on it.

I usually use it for unpacking pallets, shrink wrap and strapping, and large boxes and lots of cardboard, along with other miscellaneous tasks around a shop.

I've used it to slice bananas before just for amusement at work, but honestly what can't cut a banana? Other than that I don't use this knife with food, if that is one of your EDC concerns.

I don't train for self defense uses either, although it may excel at something like that.

Hey, I just sent you a pm too, noticed you're another Michigander!

Hey if you guys want a Wharncliffe blade with the same handle configuration as the one on the present Dodo model I certainly don't object to that at all. But please let's don't let that proposed project cancel out hopes for a new Dodo. Actually I find the Dodo to be able to do a lot of what you can do with a Wharnie.

I also find the Dodo to be more versatile on many cutting jobs. That kind of baffles me that some of you guys don't like the handle on the Yojimbo 2 because I liked the handle on the first and second editions of the YOJIMBO. But no one has the same needs that's for sure.

But a new Dodo and a Larger Scale Dodo I believe would re-ignite the popularity of this great GOLDEN ERA model. But don't forget how great that the Dodo is performance wise in Spyderedge.

I'm encountering more and more folks who have actually used the Dodo and find it to be a very interesting user model and I believe that a bigger scaled model would be even better yet.
Ohhh, a Dodo XL! I'd be down for one. I've got an Orange sprint and I'm keeping my eye out for a CF model. A green g10 or yellow with black H1 would be cool.

Oh you struck a good nerve there "dewildeman" :) I've often wondered how a Dodo would fare in the H-1 Salt Series? And you're so right because the Dodo is surprisingly a great EDC user model. I didn't believe it at first until I EDCed one for a couple of days a few years back and I was astounded at how useful and versatile of a cutter the Dodo is.

I wouldn't mind seeing one with a supersteel blade as well.

Would they be able to make the lock up to standard of an H1 Salt knife?
