Well I'm not alone am I :D For a Spyderco model to be as old as the 440V, SE Native and to have as many hardcore fans as it does should tell you all someting For a long time I've liked the older 440V steel better than S30V for a few different reasons. It does seem like serrated 440V blades can sure take a tremendous amount of punishment and it always has for me.
There are so many great blades that were made in that time period I refer to all the time that I affectionately call THE GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS 1998-2003. And the 440V, SE Native model is another great one from that time to add to that long list of classics from that time in Spyder History

I searched when I was in Afghanistan at the PX, but there was none...Only the CRKT M16-14SF in tan, which cost me like 16 bucks IIRC and I totally beat the crap out of it.
Anyone have any pics of this model native?
I don't have an OEF Native, but I do have a used OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) Native. I know it's not the same campaign, but here's a pic anyway. (I bought this one off Ebay.)

Yep. Nice. I served under OEF, with Canada. Everyone seemed to have a CRKT M16-14SF on my tour. While I purchased one, the tan Native was what I wanted. They still have them, but they are in grey now I think. I like the tan.
Thanks for the pic.
I've had the G10 and have a S110V/CF and FRN model. I prefer the FRN. The weight feels right for the blade length and the price is right. My only preference on the other models is the clip hole pattern - allows me to put in a low mount clip. But I get why the FRN model has a more robust clip.
I had the FRN lightweight Native about 3 years ago. While it's a really great knife there wasn't much about it I loved more than a lot of other models. Great knife, just nothing "extra great" for my needs. Now I have the fluted titanium Native 5. I love the titanium handle but I think the Native5 (any handle material) model is much better than the lightweight model. Actually, when it was first released I thought it was different enough from the lightweight Native that it could have been called another name. A different model entirely. Anyway, the Native 5 fits in my hand better than the lightweight did. Then again it's been 3 or so years since I held it. I'd like to have both to compare at the same time. Native line is great though.
