Gray G-10 is the obvious best choice because it'll resemble the metal of the original scales. Retro is in, baby.

My smooth knives live in the kitchen, the serrated ones live in my pocket.

Bought a Merlin in 2001 and paid full MSRP for it before I knew better. Worth every penny.

I'd pass. My serrated Stretch hasn't left my pocket since Sierra all but gave it away to me, and I'm way too in love with the curves of this blade to buy a straightened out variation. I believe the Stretch is a winner as is.

Go for it. Mine's hardly left my pocket since I got it, and the edge is easier to maintain than you might think/hear. Be advised the scales get dirty quick, but are easy enough to clean. Also that price is pretty hard to beat.

The only one I bought was the Gray one with the Carpenter steel, but I traded it for a sweet though slightly used BRK Native. It's awesome because it says "First Generation" right on the blade.

I'd be all over a bolstered Stretch, regardless of steel. VG-10 would be easier on the wallet and a great user, but a Damascus Bolster Stretch would be beyond gorgeous. Either way, bolster it up, wrap it and my check's in the mail for sure.

I'd be on that knife like bug-spray on boll weevils.

Sorry guys, but I would find any use of a pocketknife in a restaurant tacky in the extreme. A true gentleman will make due with the tools given, and if the food is tough to the point that even the cheapest diner cutlery won't do the job, I'd have it back to the cook double-time.
