Re: Mercy killing with your Spydie?
I would go the chicken way for anything so small. Hard to think without a head. Have seen some kangaroo,s jump back to life as I am thinking what to do ( after getting hit by a car ) always give them a minute or two and a nudge with the boot first nowdays. ( pouch checking for joey,s or young is a m...

Live and fish in Tropical northern Australia. Pacific Salt for saltwater and in boats. ( have 2-3 ) G Bradley1 for dressing pigs and water buffaloes. Nothing except the occasional spray with (food machine grade) Inox after a wash. The red dirt has played havoc with many metals on boats and trailers ...

Bay leaves scattered in your pantry will stop weevils getting in your stored products.
Lemon or lime zest will keep flies away from food platters outdoors.
Will post some more when I'm home from work as Mrs standy99 is a entomologist.

Gayle Bradley for the work knife. Think it's the best bang for your buck ( I would rate it better than many double the price )

Was probably a engine block of your last car or the container ship that delivered your TV years ago, in its former life. India being one of the biggest importer of scrap steel. Also having ship yards where they just beach the ship and cut it up on the beach. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/news/...

Had one Spyderco or another for over 20 years and have always had a salt or two in the boat.
Pakkawood Delica, jumped on it like a fat kid on a candy bar as soon as I saw it. Even got a wow out of the box.

One steel that gets a nice used look over time and has the characteristics I like in a steel easy to sharpen holds a edge well.
Find it better if not sharpened to a super fine edge like some other steels
Used a lot of carbon steel in Butchers knives for years and find them a dream to sharpen quickly

Re: Where Spyderco Knives Fall Short
The one thing you miss in the mix is Spyderco has everything from small to large blades covered in folders. If I want a small blade or a large blade I have choice. Want a 2" blade I buy a 2" blade Want a 4" blade I buy a 4" blade Easy solved One thing that I like about Spyderco i...

Shake hands, the more you do the better your immune system will be. Old school handshaking guy here and never had a issue I can say. Played rugby for all my youth and most adult life and more physical contact than you could poke a stick at with tackling sweaty guys week in week out.......... Or you ...

Re: Best steel for sharp edges
To make it easy Cutting meat high carbon content (was a butcher for 20+ years) Cutting wood less carbon more Tool steel qualities. M4 is my favourite but I use a flat f-dick butchers steel a lot which is just a habit from being a butcher for years. Take my hat of to all the edge junkies here but I s...

This Andersson guy is awesome. Very funny actually. We need to all bet on how long (in months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds) until his next post. Maybe Spyderco could sponsor the betting, and reward a knife to the person who bets the closest amount of time? :D Edited to add: I'm putting my bet...

Re: Market for same knife, different blade steel?
I think what this would do is put one knife in several price brackets Most companies have different knives in each price bracket. This gives them greater market coverage Like the thread about the persistence and why they don't use better steels as it will put the knife outside its price bracket ;) S...

Re: Why doesn't Persistence get a better treatment ?
Better for any company having several products in several price points. This covers a larger customer base. Most car manufacturers have the exact same philosophy and sell more cars than the companies that have only high end products that sell in lesser numbers. Don't forget that 80% of the worlds po...

Re: Blade Length Ideals for you?
Butchers can never work out why chefs need so many knives
Boning knife
And
Steak knife ( not a table steak knife )
How can you cut up a cow a pig and a lamb with 2 knives and a chef needs 5 knives to cut a few vegetables

Gayle Bradley Is as big as a blade I would ever need or want in a folder. A Delica (now a para 3) is my most common carry for day to day. Like a 6-7" knife for food prep and camp / fishing as catch some big fish in my neck of the woods. Being a butcher when I left school find a butchers boning ...
