My biggest request with paper catalogs is to try to make the pics true to size when possible. If I could be certain that every model in the catalog was presented in true to size pics, my interest in a physical catalog would increase 100%.

With that sort of confidence, I am surprised you didn't just unscrew it and analyze it to begin with.
I haven't ever felt the need to bend one of my lockbar springs to relieve tension, but I'd imagine just a small amount less angle at the kink will make all the difference you need.
