Re: Heat Treatment - Crystal Weaving Foundation

I'm an engineering student in the middle of working towards my degree, and have an interest in materials and physics. That said, my knowledge of this type of thing isn't as in-depth as I want at the moment. This looks like it could be interesting, but may I ask why you decided to test the edge ...

Re: SB question

I put it through a decent amount of cutting and the rest of the edge held up fine, so I'll just assume it's the one spot and see if it persists after a few sharpenings.

Thanks again, everyone. Appreciate your time.

Re: SB question

Thanks for the replies, all. I'll use it a bit more at this angle then, see what happens.

Hi Kenakth, I'm just trying to picture your cutting method. Did you slide the tip of the blade between the line and object and then twisted the blade 90 deg to make the cut?

No, I didn't twist the blade ...

SB question

Hey all,

For my 2nd and 3rd Spydercos I recently picked up a HAP40 Stretch and also a SB Delica 4. As soon as I got both of them in I reprofiled the blades, but ran into a bit of an issue with the super blue. I use an Edge Pro Apex, and have sharpened a lot of different types of steels (mostly the ...

Re: Yo2: A really lousy knife

If your problem for scooping and spreading peanut butter and jelly is the angle of the edge on the blade, then you're using it wrong. The spine of the blade is angled just right for that just before the tip.

Disclaimer: I don't own a Yojimbo 2. Just seemed like it needed a bodyguard for protection ...

Re: Sharpening M4, any troubles?

Hey, I don't have any M4, but I did just finish reprofiling a HAP-40 Stretch (which had the worst factory edge I've ever seen on a knife. >24 deg/side in some parts, <18 deg/side in others along the edge). Sounds like your edge is a wider angle or more worn in the belly than towards the ricasso ...

Re: thanks for the Stretch

Got my first Stretch in the mail yesterday, in HAP40. It's my second Spyderco, and as a user it feels just about perfect in the hand, with or without the choil. It did look funky to me in pictures - in person it looks much better than in images. I'm having trouble imagining a straight-spine Stretch ...

Re: Why Laminates?

I've also wondered if added tensile strength was also a primary objective?

My first thought is that it wouldn't make much of a difference in thin folding blades, and that the benefit would be much more noticeable on a thicker fixed blade that was put through heavier use/had lots more lateral ...

Re: Sprint run question

That's what I thought, but figured I'd ask. Thanks, Johnnie. I did see the 52100 Military sprint coming up, but unfortunately I can't carry anything with a blade over 3.5 inches, and I don't think I could bring myself to take a sprint run knife to a grinder haha.

Sprint run question

The knife addiction is on again. That one where a person sits and stares at a cart load of knives every night and closes the page. Looks like I got back into it a little too late though, and missed the HAP40 Delica. I usually prefer carbon steels and haven't ever owned a Delica, so out of curiosity ...

Re: Native questions

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your time.

I don't particularly mind choils, so long as I can also get a good grip on the handle without using one if it's present. I've held a few delicas, but I have pretty long fingers. The thicker handles are why I took a look at the Native, actually. If I'm not ...

Native questions

I've lurked the forums for a while now, and carried a hollowground manix 2 for a few years (bought it just after it came out). I've been pretty rough on the thing and it's held up well, but I'm looking for something a bit smaller and thinner ground. As much as I like it, the manix is taking up too ...
