I'd call forced patina functional before I labeled it as cool. I can understand wanting to protect the hidden bits too.
I just read where someone had soaked, actually boiled, their whole traditional slipjoint for 15 min in vinegar with no ill effects. Well except for stinking up the house ...

Re: Hanan & Sliver Compression Lock Flippers
my question: teflon washers in the sliver? we'll see if they learned from the ouroboros.
It's a Taichung model, unlike the Ouro or Junior, and my impression is that Teflon is a Japanese G10 or Italian phenomenon. Also, to the best of my knowledge, Spyderco has never dropped a Teflon flipper. Heck ...

Re: soak a whole knife in vinegar?
Disassembly is likely not difficult, so if you don't depend on warranties, that's the wisest way to pursue a patina.
If you don't want to disassemble, dipping in vinegar may not be a problem for the amount of time it takes to patina M4. I would loosen the pivot and degrease the inside as ...

soak a whole knife in vinegar?
hey all, simple question for you: is it safe to soak a whole knife in vinegar to force a patina on the blade? i have a mantra and was thinking about trying to force a patina on the m4 but am loathe to disassemble the knife -- warranty and stripping screws and all that. could i just soak the whole ...

Re: Bradley folder 2
with the number of knives slated to come out of the taiwan facility by the end of the year, i wouldn't be surprised if they've hit some kind of major problem. the positron was supposed to be out at the beginning of this month!

Re: gayle bradley 2 news
i'm definitely more excited about this one than a lot of the other knives coming to market -- even the s110v pm2. maybe even the m4 pm2. not sure why this doesn't have ore buzz around it tbh.

Re: delivery delays
For a bit of perspective, the Autonomy was shown at Blade in 2012 and first listed in the 2013 catalog. It finally hit dealer shelves a couple months ago.
that's...a whopping dose of perspective, Deacon! haha i haven't been into knives for long enough to recognize the trends; that bit of data ...

Re: delivery delays
thanks, everyone, for the input! to be honest, i was a bit surprised at the list of just taichung-made spyderco models tentatively slated for 2015 -- it just seemed so ambitious! when you factor in the models to be produced by the other factories, we're looking at a new release almost every week for ...

hey all,
considering how many models were slated to come out by the end of the year and how many months we have left in 2015, is it even possible for everything in the mid-year supplement to come out on time? or is it common in the knife world for production models to miss their targets and see ...

Re: hey sal! paramilitary 2 in...zdp-189?
S30V is pretty close to ZDP-189.
If you want something more "super" with higher wear resistance, a S110V model is coming out soon.
having used both, i'm a little surprised to see a positive comparison between s30v and zdp-189. but i am new to it all, so maybe that's just me!

yep prettttty stoked for that one!bearfacedkiller wrote:ZDP is a very unique steel. If you want great edge retention there are some options but nothing exactly like zdp. Take a look at the S110V Para2 that should be dropping soon. It is gonna be a regular production knife. :)

Re: hey sal! paramilitary 2 in...zdp-189?
I believe that there would be very little, if any, chance of this combo. Typically, Japanese steels such as VG10, ZDP-189, and Super Blue can only be used in Japanese models. The PM2 is made in the US, as you probably know.
I'm sure someone will cite the fact that the Autonomy is made in the US ...
