Re: MAP policy change? 35%

Yes, here in EU we pay MSRP plus 5-15% on top of it. Point is with all that MAP policy going 5% up every year, the price of the MAP is going to be equal or very close to that of MSRP at some point in the future. And when it comes to that point MAP is around 10% lower than MSRP I would choose to pay ...

Re: Hundred Pacer - my most anticipated of 2017

I think I'll take two of those. A safe queen and a user. I always fancied big knives so that exactly what I'm looking for. It's not that big - if you're carried Manix2XL this one shouldn't be much different. Sad part is I'm living in UK now so it won't see any pocket time. Kitchen duty exclusively.

Re: MAXAMET VS. GIRLY STEELS

So.. about the W in the steel. There's a way to see if it has significant impact for the edge holding - try to find a knife made with T1 tool steel. It has insane amount of W in the composition - C-0.65-0.80%, W-17.25-18.75%, V- 0.9-1.3%, Cr-3.75-4.0%. It's a really interesting steel composition. An...

Can't pull the trigger on 100 Pacer. Cause it's not available... yet. :D Hope that changes very soon. On the serious side - anything over 300$ is the dream land. Unless i win a lottery or something.

Re: I'm bummed...

It might not be a hot seller, but it's still in production. For many years. And that speaks a lot. It sells. Maybe it is a slow seller but still. Otherwise it would have been discontinued long time ago. So i do hope there is a chance for a production model with upgraded steel or a sprint. Actually i...

Re: Spyderco prices in Europe exploded !

Yep, we pay the full MSRP... in euros. Give or take 10-20. And not only Spyderco, it's the same thing with other US brands. That's why i left the Europe dealers and turned to a third party middle man. There's some companies offering exactly this kind of services - buying from US on your behalf. They...

Re: Wiha Torx Screwdrivers

Personally i like a bit holding driver with various bits. You can change the bits if you don't like them or buy others to suit your needs and they are cheap to replace. When a regular screwdriver is done it is done and you have to buy a replacement. Wiha is a very good brand, with Wera i got a mixed...

Seeing your edges guys, i feel almost embarrassed showing mine :o . Here it is - a work in progress. Stock is going convex - there's a lot of work to be done, but i don't have time right now. http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae351/vanshee69/Spyderco%20Manix%202%20XL/1_zpsdlyfl8sp.jpg~original http...

Re: Reprofiling Manix 2 XL and first blood

Thanks for the welcome, Sal! So far i'm very impressed with S30V and the whole knife, very solid construction and i find it very comfortable in the hand. Easily get used to close it singlehand and i love the BB lock. And yes, i confess, i'm an edge junky :) On the other news - had a plenty of cuts i...

Reprofiling Manix 2 XL and first blood

So i decided to touch the stock edge of my manix 2 xl and ended up to reprofiling to slight convex. It took me about an hour to do it and i'm very pleased with the results. Upon cleaning the blade after all this sanding and polishing my knife decided to draw blood (first blood with this knife). It's...

Re: Is WD-40 bad for phosphor bronze bushings?

Careful with this WD-40. I don't recommend using it on a knife or any other fine machinery. Few weeks ago i heard someone saying that WD-40 can damage brass. And as i'm very curious person grabbed an old piece of brass, cleaned it with paste 'till shining and sprayed it with WD-40. As you know WD-40...

Re: Balancing cutting tasks and edge retention? Or would should I not cut with my knife ?

Like so many people said, just use your knife and do a quick touch up every evening. If you get a habit for touching up your cutting tools on daily basis it can be done in minutes. Most often i use a piece of wet sandpaper with 2000 grit on a piece of glass or whatever flat surface i can find when o...

Re: Fake or not?

Thanks for taking the time to read for my concerns. I feel very optimistic now that i know someone with experience in the knives paid attention. It's my very first spyderco, and i don't know any of my friends that have manix 2 xl, so i cannot compare my knife with others. And i'm absolutely sure tha...

Re: Fake or not?

Thanks a lot. Maybe you're right - sharpening different kind of tools daily gives a lot of experience. My chisels are not the sharpest, but if they bite my fingernail gently - they're good enough for me. So i guess that makes me a proud owner of my first Spyderco knife. Just edited my link - i think...

Fake or not?

Hello everybody! So as you see i'm a newbie here so forgive my general nonsense every now and then. So recently a friend of mine gifted me a new Manix 2 XL when he returned from US trip. It's my first :spyder: and i'm in love with it. I'm in general carpentry, wood working and custom furniture makin...
