I don’t think that any Spydie comes close to what the Chaparral is, but then I think the knife is one of Sal’s top 5 designs.

Chalk it up to beauty being in the eye of the beholder, and some folks valuing visibility over looks.

Re: Micarta Chaparral

Much as I love Micarta, I don't think the Chaparral is the best vehicle for it. Micarta looks best when it's thick enough to be at least a bit rounded so the layers are visible. The Chaparral, at least so far, has featured thin flat scales. Still, if it was done with "original recipe" Micarta and no...

Re: Your toughest Spyderco Folder

It would be a toss up between my original Manix and my Chinook 2. They look different, but are built exactly the same and are as tough as nails. Neither is a knife I'd consider carrying unless world goes to hell.

Re: Is the Bow River sold out?

I looked for a second one at one point to give as a gift and couldn't find it in stock. The good news is that, given its popularity, we might see some sprint versions! A sprint coming out of China? I don't think that has ever happened before, so I really doubt we'll see one with the Bow River unles...

Re: If you could give any Spyderco the Cruwear / Micarta treatment.....

Depends. Cruwear doesn't interest me, but if the Micarta is "original recipe" and not just something Norplex has slapped the Micarta name on, then I'd buy a Stretch 2 like that, swap the blade with an FRN/VG-10 one, and sell the FRN/Cruwear FrankenStretch.

Only Spyderco model name that's ever had a negative impact on me is Paramilitary. That one has always made me cringe, way too many negative connotations.

You of all people should know that you can't post something like that on here without pictures! :p

It's the bottom knife in the photo below and, FWIW, it looked like the topmost knife before Steve rebuilt it.

Re: Spyderco Sheepsfoot Blades: Likes, Dislikes and Favorite Models?

What is the handle made of? Handle is stabilized birdseye maple over titanium liners with a titanium backspacer. Work was done by Steve Rice (STR) back when he was doing such things. He is also the craftsman responsible for turning an "original recipe" SS/Kraton handled Stretch into the ligum vitae...

Re: Individual post links?

I've always used the little icon. I never realized the subject line for the particular post works the same way. I've been a moderator on another forum for years. The only way you can do it is to use the little icon because there is no subject line above each individual post. So I never thought to t...

It's been modded to be more like a wharncliffe, but this Atlantic Salt is the only sheepsfoot blade that finds its way into my pocket. http://paulberetta.com/images/atlantic_salt/atlantic_05.jpg It's my go-to large folder carry choice for walking the dog on hot rainy days getting wet with rain feels...

Re: Shaman Cruwear; Brown Micarta characteristics

Simply looks like the difference between linen and canvas micarta (the "L" and the "C" in the sample photos). The Shaman is canvas micarta, and your Native is linen. Exactly. Any other differences can be chalked up to whether it's polished or not. The Stretch pictured below customized for me with b...

That paper icon next to the posters name.

To be honest, I was referring to the Subject Line text above that icon, but the icon also seems to work.

Re: Individual post links?

Is there a way to link to a specific post that I'm missing? On some other forums each post is numbered and those numbers are usually links straight to that post. It would be really handy to link to different posts and not to the entire thread. David, by right clicking on the Subject Line of the pos...

Re: White Handle

Hi Larry, We're testing the blade shape. The color just to make it different. I think the blade shape thing is more of an "eye" thing than a "function" thing. Maybe we'll learn something. sal Well Sal, I'd say it's a bit of both. Ever since the Stretch first came out there have been some who did no...

Re: Are you carrying knives with an index choil?

I voted "other" for two reasons. First because at this hour of the morning I'm sitting in front of my computer in a pair of gym shorts, so no pockets, no knives "on me". Second because one of the three knives I carry most days is a Jester, which lacks a choil, but is rarely ever used and because I d...

Thanks folks. Bear crossed rainbow bridge last month, so my birthday was a very quiet one this year. Bolstered Stretch and a Kiwi that fellow member Tonlydahose customized for me with imitation tortoiseshell scales were in my pockets.

Re: Have you found the one?

I voted "Other" because, for me, there's no single Spyderco that's "the one" but there are . I love the Stretch and carry one almost every time I leave the house. However, I have to go into Greenville every once in a while, like today to get my one car serviced, and can't carry anything with a blade...

Re: Which Steel In you’re experience is your favorite for Spydie Edges?

I remember reading somewhere they said that VG-10 was developed as an "agricultural steel". It's funny about ATS-34 and VG-10 both were not initially made for cutlery. ATS-34 was made for the Aviation sector and VG-10 for agriculture. I believe it was USA knifemaker Bob Loveless who discovered the ...
