Re: Stop throwing away Amazon boxes!

We get too many to use them all, but I do “chip” a lot of cardboard up by hand to use as a carbon amendment to our compost. Usually keep a 5 gallon bucket’s worth on hand. It’s also an excuse to do a lot of informal comparisons between all the different blades I have around here.

Re: Hope for a Chaparral with upgraded steel?

I'll buy a micarta Chap in virtually any steel. Might cave on the maple in the interim, looks very nice.

Re: Warm vs Cool weather carry

With the pandemic and cornteen, working from home full time, etc, I’ve basically only worn athletic shorts for the last 6 months. Urban clipped iwb most of the time.

Look forward to the cooler weather providing an excuse to carry some different stuff.

Re: Urban Chief

The UKPK has a 3” blade. It and the Urban are two of my favorite Spydies. The red g10 HH exclusive is worth snagging if you want something a bit more robust than the lw models. As far as the “beefiest” Spyderco slipjoint, I think that honor goes to the discontinued ti PITS. A slip joint Kapara has b...

Re: Para 3 Lefty?

To the lefties asking for a lefty Para 3: where exactly is your problem? I'm not trying to be disrespectful, just curious why it's not working for you. It's not a problem, it's preference. Please buy yourself a Para 2 left hand and only carry and use it righty for a month. Report back on your exper...

Re: Question about a left hand police model

Welcome Gregg, Interesting model. I'm a lefty but was not aware there was ever a specific left hand version of the Police before it became full ambi. Did some digging and found an old thread which may be of some interest: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?t=32294 Hard to say what the value mi...

I never really got into Crass (sorry Nate!), but my friends all definitely did.

It's not easy listening for sure, but as far as what the whole ethos means to me, they are the epitome of punk.

I do like virtually everthing else mentioned here as well. :)

Re: Spyderco Lock Type Preference

My order of preference currently is: Back lock Slip joint . . Comp lock (held back for me since there's only one left hand version) CBBL (limited model options) . . Liner and Frame locks (Again, only one lefty option) Truth is they're all good, but back locks and slip joints are what I've gravitated...

Re: Anyone else love BD1N?

I want to try 14c28n, but nothing I really want comes in that steel. Is bd1 or bd1n closer? Just spitballing, but I'd assume BD1N since they have similar nitrogen content. AEB-L is probably closer to 14c28n than either though. Could be they're all so similar that it doesn't really matter in real wo...

Re: Anyone else love BD1N?

Ha, great reminder. I impulse bought a black UKPK in BD1N off Bladeforums a while back and kind of forgot about it. Will make it a point to start using it this weekend. :)

Expect it to be solid for my use though. I've tended more toward simpler (lower carbide) steels over time.

Re: Vacation Knives

We were just in Nag's Head the 2nd week of June. My Spydie lineup included a South Fork, a PE Pac 1 (have since added a SE,) a Manbug Salt that's always on my keys, a Ladybug Hawkbill carried in my board shorts, and my AEB-L Urban for non-beach edc. Meant to also grab another mid-sized blade like a ...

Re: Something I do not understand about the Chaparral

The lock bar on my Chap lw was very stiff out of the box, but after a break in period it basically feels ideal to me now. I'm curious if anyone who has done the manual lock spring adjustment had it become too soft over time and ended up moving it back? Guess it's possible that mine "broke in" by slo...

Re: Gentleman Jess(Baby Horn)

The sad thing is, it's not that niche of a design. It's such a great knife... Yeah, I agree. Meant more "niche" vs. stuff like the typical uber popular sprints and exclusives. Am surprised the Baby Horn never caught on and got bought up by other crowds considering the popularity of GEC and other tr...
