Caly 4 lw?
Caly 4 lw?
Hi all,
Been a bit out of the loop for a while. Trying to sort out if the Caly 4 lw is a real thing that’s in-the-works or if it’s just something I hallucinated and want to believe is real???
Anyway, please, hoping someone can help a brother out and set me straight. Did some searching here and on the google, but didn’t find much. Maybe my “fu” is just weak tonight, dunno. Feel like this was confirmed a few years ago and then maybe it just disappeared into the ether…

There is a Caly 4 in the works, but don't think it is a LW. There is a 3.5 LW in the works.

Thank you. Just remembered there was talk of a “CKPK” as well as one point, which may have added to my confusion.

Re: Caly 4 lw?
I believed someone on the forum confirmed there was a caly 4 prototype at the last shotshow. Hopefully it gets revealed sometime this year

It's supposed to be the Canadian Penknife; 3.5" variant of the UKPK. Maybe it's the "CanucK PenKnife" to make it CKPK

Re: Caly 4 lw?
I've been really looking forward to the Caly 3.5 LW. Hopefully it gets here sooner rather than later!

Re: Caly 4 lw?
While I probably don't actually have the patience for 15V to get there, I do have the patience in hopes that Spyderco is able to work through the delay issues with the Maker to finally see these new Caly variants make it to market!
Going back to Caly.
Re: Caly 4 lw?
My plans for the "Caly family" didn't work out so we're re-looking at the plan.
There is a Caly 2.5, a Caly 3.0, a Caly 3.5, a Caly 4.0 and pendants.

Re: Caly 4 lw?
I was admiring a Caly 3.5 on Nationalknives.com website, been dangerous for me the last month or two, but I have not really looked at these knives at all. Mainly because of the blade length and availability of steel types in the blades. After reading this thread on here, curiosity got the best of me lol.
I see the blade pivot bolt as well as the wire clip have these little fly cut heads. Really slick looking stuff. I really like the unique hardware on some of the select knives I have acquired.
But the other hardware that holds the scales and knife together, I couldn't see a torx in them or anything else for that matter. What are these?
These are good looking knives and we get these in the 4.0 size, they will most likely be on my radar, and I will be trolling around one of them.
Just really curious as to what type of component the scales are attached with?

Re: Caly 4 lw?
My patience awaiting the revived Caly family is almost infinite, but my ability to not get a ZDP/CF Caly 3.5 to ease the waiting time is really taking a toll. Even though I really don't want another CF handled knife. Especially if the recent price decrease will be reflected at European dealers and Sal's somewhat cryptic message above is indicative of further delays.SpeedHoles wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:05 pmWhile I probably don't actually have the patience for 15V to get there, I do have the patience in hopes that Spyderco is able to work through the delay issues with the Maker to finally see these new Caly variants make it to market!

Bummer to hear. Seki factory issues? The Caly family deserves to be in more hands... It is some of your finest design work IMO.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Re: Caly 4 lw?
The Calypso, caly jr, caly 3.5 and caly 3 have always been pinned as far as I know. Except the pivots in most cases.Jeb wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 1:30 amI was admiring a Caly 3.5 on Nationalknives.com website, been dangerous for me the last month or two, but I have not really looked at these knives at all. I think the only member of the family that is full screw construction is the UKPK. Maybe the DKPK too.
Hoping that changes with the newest gens. I really liked the full sized Calypso, but pinned construction doesn't work well for me on non salt models.
Re: Caly 4 lw?
I'm fairly certain I read that the planned Calys are screw construction.

Re: Caly 4 lw?
It would be great to see a Caly family revival, with a range of steel options similar to what we see with the Delica 4 or Native 5 line, but I'll be honest, a lot of my hankering for a new Caly (the Caly 3 in particular) has been satisfied by the recent additions to the Sage 5 line-up of SPY27 & Salt/MagnaCut options. The Sage 5 & Caly 3 are similar enough ergonomically, at least for me, and the difference in lock type is a bit of a non-factor, as I like both the Compression Lock and Spyderco's mid-backlock equally well & have no clear-cut preference for one or the other when it comes to a work folder.
Re: Caly 4 lw?
I was wondering that was some sort of non-removeable hardware, but I just couldn't tell from the pix I had looked at.
Personally I like being able to take mine apart, to clean mostly, then re-lube as I go back together. I am a serious gearhead so I just come by that naturally, at least that is my story lol...

Yeah. I've grudgingly started to carry Sage 5s with updated steels, as my Caly 3s enter the geriatric phase of their lives. I like the slim, trim lines of the Caly3 better than the slightly pudgy outline of the Sage, but the Sage IMO is the "next best thing." If you can't have the one you love, then love the one you're with...I suppose.
