Re: Mule Team MT28P CPM SPY27 Revealed!

I'm assuming you mean from the position of an end user, not in your personal position as a manufacturer. As a major manufacturer, you have lots of options not available to the rest of us.

So, if you're making a sheath yourself, use veg tan from a USA or EU tannery. The big reason for this is ...

Re: Mule Team MT28P CPM SPY27 Revealed!

Think it’s the opposite, now nearly all leather is vegetable tanned it can cause the rust if the knife is stored in the sheath. Thicker leather and not as dry as chrome tanned leather so more moisture when new.
Old style chrome processing was a lot quicker but not as much of a issue with rusting ...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places

51200 will support lower edge angles leading to significantly better cutting performance. That's always the tradeoff between high-carbon and high-carbide steels: The high-carbon cuts better with less effort and less deformation of the thing you're cutting but you have to sharpen a bit more often ...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places

That's Amazon's automated pricing algorithm at work. If something hasn't sold in a while, the computer slightly lowers the price and then waits. If it still doesn't sell, it lowers the price again and then waits. It repeats this until someone actually buys one, then it bumps the price back up a ...

Re: Spyderco 2016 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

Sigh. I feel like I should buy that 52100 Military just to vote with my wallet to Spyderco that they need to stop making knives only in steels with annoyingly high carbide contents and get back to making knives with steels that allow for actual good cutting performance, but I don't actually like ...

Re: Massdrop deals

MD is refusing to ship knives out of the US, according to a disclaimer the last time I looked at a knife drop. Too many of them were being confiscated at the borders of the destination countries.

Re: Spyderco 2016 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

What about the "Spyderco C41CFFP5 Native 5 Plain S90V, Fluted Carbon Fiber"? Looks to be the same as the anniversary but without the celebration blade.
Do you mean damascus without the horridly ugly " 40 " on it, or do you mean it's plain steel? Honestly, the reason I'm not buying the Anniversary ...

Re: My Tuff Heart Hurts.

Yeah, I'm sad I missed out on the Tuff as well and with the counterfeiting going on, buying Spyderco knives used just gives me the willies because I don't know enough to make sure I'm buying a real one. I wish they'd re-run the Tuff just so I know I'm getting the real thing!

Re: Roc getting close

Mine came from New Graham yesterday. My feelings pretty much match what's been said here. It's interesting but not quite what I thought it would be. I definitely don't like how thin (on both axes) the handle is. I think I like it enough to keep it, but I'm not sure. Definitely not as cool as I've ...

Re: SharpMaker Rules!

Regarding that disability, have you ever tried the SM before? If so, how are your results with PE?
Yeah, I've had a Sharpmaker for years. One of the old single-angle ones that came in the cordura fabric pouch. I initially got OK results with it but as my motor control got worse, so did my results ...

How are you sharpening your SpyderEdges?

I'm currently sharpening plain edges with a Wicked Edge, which can't sharpen serrated edges. Due to a minor motor disability, I can't sharpen freehand. Because of that, I've been avoiding buying serrated blades (a la SpyderEdge). This is, obviously, somewhat annoying. How are you guys sharpening ...

So how hard is it to buy on ebay?

I want to get a Manix 2 with a saber grind. That seems to force me to shop via ebay. However, because of this forum, I'm somewhat terrified of trying to get Spyderco products on ebay due to the fact that it seems like fakes outnumber real product. As a complete noob, how dangerous really is it for ...

What's like a Tenacious but better?

So I've been looking at pictures online and I like the looks of the Tenacious. I like the blade shape and the forward rake to the edge of the FFG. It reminds me of my Temperance 2, which I dearly love. However, I'm definitely a knife snob when it comes to quality of construction (though not looks ...

Re: Spyderco 2014 Lists: Delivered, Coming Soon & Later

Has there been an official release on the Roc folder yet? I see a few websites listing a price for it, but they don't indicate they actually have it and this thread says "Coming Soon".

I don't know if there has been a delay but Sal said this elsewhere about the Roc a few weeks ago:

"The maker ...
