Re: New Double Sided CBN Benchstone

Even though It’s been a while since this CBN bench stone came out, there are still not many reviews out there on it. I thought I would chime in with my experience and maybe some other users that have had this a while will post their thoughts as well.

For me, this stone is mainly used for kitchen ...

Thanks for the input guys.

I just pulled the trigger on the Manual version.

After thinking about it for a while, I decided the DA version did seem gimmicky, and at TWICE the price, I just could not justify that!!!

I have handled DA and MA Microtech models and although the tolerances were impressive, I felt the MA was smoother than the Manual action on the DA. Is this a possible loss of opening smoothness due to the cam feature?

THIS is what I was wondering about. There has to be some difference in feel ...

Evil,
Thanks for your input. Your review was one of the ones I read while in the research phase of the purchase.

I have only seen youtube reviews of how the DA version worked, but never an in depth review of the actual knife. I was thinking (right or wrong) that the DA version can be opened with ...

Not custom, but a different (DA) version of the same model.

Spyderco Vallotton: Dual Action or Manual???

Hey guys.

I've fallen in love with this knife recently, and want to pull the trigger on it soon.

My ONLY decision is whether to get the Dual Action version or the manual. Since the DA is TWICE the price, it's kind of a big decision!

I was wondering if I may ask those of you that either own, or ...

Wow, it looks like Tuesday is just as rough for me as Monday was LOL!

For some reason I always thought the steeper of the two settings was 40 degree, like it was measured off the side. I also got my terminology mixed up thinking the back bevel was the term for the last bevel (micro/edge) bevel you ...

Angle confusion solved...

When your bevel is at 30 degrees and you hit light strokes on the 40 degree setting, that's your micro bevel or "edge bevel" as Spyderco refers to it.

I was just wondering if anyone has actually done that with a Sharpmaker (and what they thought of it), or if they just settle on the 40 (or even ...

Has anybody ever tried a microbevel with a Sharpmaker, or are the 40 and 30 degree angles too far off?

Thanks so much for the info so far guys. I really appreciate it.

It sounds like those that do microbevel are doing it at a much lower angle than I thought. I was thinking of microbeveling at 30 degrees with a 40 degree primary bevel on an S30V blade, but it looks like I *might* not need to ...

To Microbevel, or NOT to Microbevel... That is the question!

Hi guys,

I know there are a lot of guys here who are edge fanatics, and after seeing some of the work in the "Show your edge" thread I KNOW this is the forum to ask this question.

I was wondering if microbeveling an edge is more of a preference or more of a neccesity, depending on the material you ...

cheaperthandirt.com is a good one, too. I buy a lot of gun stuff there, but the price on my Native was lower than anywhere I had seen. Great customer service, too.

Another good one is knifehog.com Low prices there, too.

Phaust and Mike, thanks for the reviews. Have either of you tried Tuf-Glide?

Chris, I have not tried it yet, but want to pick up a Tuf cloth. I'm a Glock guy, so I don't worry about the guns rusting. I know knives are a different animal though. I heard on the Glock forum that Emerson likes using ...

I agree with you on paying shipping for a single can. I buy a decent amount of stuff from midway USA so I just added a few bottles when I placed a larger order. I figured if they are already shipping me 20+ pounds of stuff 3-4 aresol cans can't add that much to shipping.

Midway USA is having a ...

Hmmm...interesting. I use ballistol on my guns as well, but never thought about using it on my knives. Do you spray it into the pivot out spray and then rub the tip of the straw on the pivot?

I have it in both the spray can and the non spray. The non-aerosol is a little thicker, and I use the non ...

Nano-oil vs. Ballistol...

I've been using Nano Oil (10w) for a couple months now. It's a good lube but way over hyped.

I'm actually going to have to agree with phaust on this one. I did my own comparison test with another favorite lube of mine - Ballistol.

The test platform for this shootout is my Spyderco Native. When ...

Meets my needs. No problems, no complaints.
I'm a Ballistol fan, too.

Can anybody that has used Ballistol on their knives/guns chime in on the differences or improvement over Ballistol, if any?
