What's wrong with knives developed for combat?

Can't speak for him, but I'm wary of potential legal problems... illegal to carry a concealed "weapon" here, so knives designed for SD/combat could pose a problem for me.

On the other hand, Spyderco doesn't specifically say the Yojimbo is for SD ...

And I don't mean to knock the Taiwanese products, they're very nice. I love my Japanese Spydies to death. But there is something that doesn't bode well about taking American production (be it a pocket knife, laptop, car, sweatshirts) overseas.

Fair enough. I'm not American, so "made in America ...

I don't really care where it's made as long as it's great quality. I can't comment on where Spyderco should produce their knives, I'm sure they can figure that out just fine.

I hate assisted openers. First, the springs wear out and/or snap, second, I find they take all the fun out of flipping or flicking the knife. I wouldn't consider buying one, I view it as a gimmick.

I wish there were an actual sword maker who was reproducing a good-quality yet somewhat affordable kilij.

There are tons of katanas in the $300+ range, going every upwards in cost and quality...

There are also high-quality Western sword makers like Albion, etc.

The backspacer on my Endura has slight "jagged" unfinished edge and is somewhat proud, and the blade is quite far off-center, especially with a tight pivot.

One thing they'd need to preserve would be the distinctive "yelman" where the blade widens near the end.




Could make for some interesting grinds.

Mr. Blonde showed some proto picks including a run of laminated-Superblue knives coming in the future. Delica, Endura, Stretch, and Dragonfly2 as I understand it. That might be right up your alley.

I haven't done any Cliff Stamp style tests but it seems pretty good to me. I wouldn't want a more expensive steel bumping up the price of the Enduras and Delicas.

I prefer screws, but a pinned handle won't turn me away if I like the design.

I won't buy a knife with a pinned pivot, however... bye bye Native. I need the ability to adjust my pivot due to the law here.

One thing I don't like about a lot of those cord-wrapped tantos is the lack of any form of guard...

Yup, definitely get the Delica and the Sharpmaker. You'll be able to keep it perpetually sharp, if it's not completely dull, only takes a minute to touch up.

The examples of bushed pivots I have been able to get my hands on, I really like, but it makes them difficult for me to import, which is a big negative for us Spydie fans with tight laws.

I like it in principle but I'm holding off buying a knife with one because of the gravity knife laws here. I can flick out most knives before I adjust them and I don't feel comfortable carrying something that is technically illegal. If not for those pesky laws I think I'd be totally fine with it.

The bushing goes through the pivot hole in the blade. The blade "swings" over the bushing. The washers sit on a collar on either side of the bushing. The handle slabs/liners sit on top of the washers. So, from what I understand this is why you can only tighten the pivot bolts so much. You're just ...

Disassembling your knife voids the warranty. If you take the washer(s) out your scales will probably scratch the blade near the pivot. Why can't you tighten the pivot with the washers installed? My knives with pivot screws can be tightened all the way from "swinging loose" to "won't open". If you ...

I have an odd question related to this; is it possible to take out the washer so that the bushing becomes a pivot I can tighten as much as I like?
