Now, the icing on the cake... I'm in Canada, and my Para 2 that Spyderco sent back to me unrepairable has been held in customs for the past week. I hope it's not the old case of silly customs agents yet again wrist flicking knives to test them and calling them banned "gravity knives" whatever that ...

I'd be very careful, I polished the surfaces on my Para 2 to fix that very same problem. It made the sticking worse and then I removed more out of frustration. Too much was removed and the lock now had vertical blade play.

Spyderco would then not fix anything under warranty. You should just send ...

I find it frustrating that they don't have PM2 liners available. It's not like the factory is across the World where there would be some difficulty in getting and storing the parts. Instead, for lack of a simple part, another durable good ...

I had tried incrementally rotating the stop pin and testing the lock. Didn't seem to help out. I realize now that I should have just gotten used to the sticking because it means that you have a really tight lockup, and it's a flaw in the design of the compression lock that if QA isn't really picky ...

I really want to say that I remember reading somewhere that you can very carefully and slowly peen a compression lockbar tab back to within tolerance. Still might stick though.


Great idea, I'll probably try that before trying to build back the metal on the other side. Maybe if the Spring liner ...

I think the compression lock has been improved especially going by my para 3 .your right my early para 2 phurchases of approx 10 years ago long gone now did have more stick of that I am sure . Have a camo para 2 in collection no stick but little use .would recommend a para 3 and military cool big ...

Thanks for that tip. I did actually try rotating the stop pin and tried varying tightness on the scale retention screws. Good old internet had lots of tips over 10 years so I was pretty surprised it never fixed it either.

If anyone ever reads this, don't try polishing the locking surfaces yourself ...

Good to hear it fixed it for you. Believe me, I tried every form of lubricant I had for almost 10 years and it just wouldn't break in. It was a DLC coated blade though, so maybe that's why.

Is a long term sticky lock on a Paramilitary 2 considered a warranty issue? I had the knife for 10 years almost and the sticking just wouldn't go away and constantly annoyed me. I would do the pencil lead and sharpie thing but it always came back.

Anyway, it's moot now, because I tried fixing it ...

I know what you mean... I used to say the same thing.

However, since buying the Southard I haven't even felt the urge to even look at other knives and shop around. Either something changed in me and the new knife obsession is fading, or I'm just so happy ...

It's my favorite knife by far and I have to say it might be the last knife I buy for a very long time... It's that good.

Now I really need to get me some H1 too...

I'm waiting for the serrated H1 Enuff fixed blade to come out. I'll run that baby through some real world tests.

No problems here. It carries nicely and slides in and out with no issues. The clip rides over the smooth part so there is no snagging. It still feels secure enough to me and I don't think it will rip up pants like a knife with G-10 on both sides would.

I would say its worth it. Obviously so since I'm playing with mine right now.

Quality design, premium materials, and a I'm sure Taichung isn't a cheap factory. I wouldn't expect it to be a cheap knife. Maybe in the future if it turns out to be a crazy top seller, they might order them in droves ...

Thanks for the report. I guess I need to work on my edge. My Southard ripped through the cardboard leaving jagged tears. I switched to my (short, thick bladed) Techno, and it zipped through the same box with no problem. :confused:

Today I re-profiled my Southard to about 17 degrees per side then ...

My Caly 3 was like that when I got it. I loosened the pivot a bit and cycled the action under soapy and running water then flushed with WD-40 like mentioned above. It works great. If you are not wanting to loosen that pivot just do the same things without doing so. I'm betting that it will work ...

I don't think the less expensive knives use actual DLC. If you like the idea of DLC then I'd go with the Para 2. I have the digi-camo DLC Para 2 and have not babied it at all and the blade shows no scratching or wear. That is one ...

Let us know how yours does on the cardboard. I love my Southard, but I have to say, I was not impressed with its performance cutting cardboard boxes (at least with the factory edge, I haven't messed with the edge at all yet).

I feel for you man. The sharpmaker works great until you happen to get a knife with bevels greater than the 40 degree inclusive angle built into the tool.

You can spend an insanely long time trying to reshape the edge and it can be very frustrating. This same experience with a fat bevel Endura ...
