If you don't have a steel (make sure it's smooth, the ridged ones still remove metal), you could try the corner of a fine grit sharpmaker rod. They are hard enough to not significantly wear down either the steel or the rod under pressure, as they are polishing instruments, not made for stock remova...

Rock Salt vs. Coconut = folded edge

So I decided to test my relatively new Rock Salt against a coconut. After several whacks, the coconut split, but I was left with an approx 1 cm long fold in the blade's edge. I've already taken it through numerous passes on the Sharpmaker, which helped, but the fold still remains. Will the blade nee...

Design3: Hybrids that make use of ridges. With I-beam pattern and Spyderhole on the left, and with a single rib on the right. pros: split better, cut good cons: still heavier than the hawk, probably costlier to manufacture Ookami This is a cool thread. I like the idea of the hybrid head... I'd be w...

I recently bought the Rock Salt after going through the same dilemma and question. I ended up buying only the Rock Salt and I'm glad I did. I appreciate that it's lighter and has a nice balance and ergonomics. Its probably not quite as good as a Woodlander for basic chopping due to it being lighter,...

I'm not familiar with CPM-M4 steel. It appears to not be stainless given its low chromium content of 4%. What's special about M4?

My knew knives

So for about 10-15 years, the only Spyderco knife that I owned and used was a Delica-1 SE. Last month I was in the market for a new knife and so I joined this forum to get more information and ask people's advice. Now I currently own a new Caly3 G-10, Rock Salt, Tasman yellow SE, and a SE ladybug :e...

What I don't understand is why people write on a general Spyderco forum and get upset when other people respond in an inflammatory way to an inflammatory post... and then expects Sal to respond in person to their personal knife problem. Sal didn't make this guys knife and has no idea why it isn't pe...

I just cut through an empty heavy plastic half gallon maple syrup jug with my brand new Caly3 to retrieve toys my son shoved down through the small opening. It worked beautifully.

Thanks for that explanation. If Spyderco did a sprint run, I just might have to buy one and check it out. It's hard to judge a knife without handling it first.

What is so appealing about the Yojimbo? It looks like a pretty simple blade design. Is there something I'm missing here?

the only care you need to show it is to sharpen as needed. Hey Tony, Thanks for the great pics. Looks like your Tasman has gotten a lot of use. What do you use to sharpen your serrations, do you find the Sharpmaker effective? (I'm new to sharpening, haven't done it much so I'm a little nervous abou...
