Re: That Metropolitan is mine !

You won’t regret picking up the Magnacut UKPK.
I’ve EDC’d mine for over a year now and cannot sing it’s praises enough. Super light weight, brilliant ergos and an amazingly well rounded steel… and to top it off they are only £20 more expensive here than the smaller, brittle-steeled, non-jimped ...

Re: That Metropolitan is mine !

Looks like they’ve done away with the finger choil jimping on this new model. ',:-|
I’m not a fan of this decision at all. A backwards step from the Urban and UKPK.

That's surprising. I wouldn't have noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out until I had one in hand. I think between that and ...

Re: That Metropolitan is mine !

Hi Sal,
Would it be fair to assume that the Metro doesn't have the split fork style backspring that the UKPK has?

Re: Are the CruCarta Natives still happening?

While I agree with the principle, the linerless Natives have no PB washers, and I think it seriously harms their action. I haven't bought a linerless Native Chief because AWT doesn't have replacement scale + PB washer kits for them like they do the Native 5.

You're thinking of the LW, which has ...

Re: Ever have a lock fail in normal use?

Just FYI, you can also get a buildup of crud under the lock bar that can have the same effect as crud in the lockwell. Much harder to see and reach to clean out. I've had that happen, along with lint in the lockwell. I also have a Dodo that would close with a little thumb pressure on the spine. I ...

Re: Ever have a lock fail in normal use?

I had a Dragonfly 2 that failed me several years ago. Was cleaning up some holes in drywall and the lock got loose/gave out a couple times when cutting. Could have been the way I was holding it. I thought it was pocket lint causing the issue, but the lock cutout looked clean. Retired it and moved on ...

The backlock on the Native 5 is awesome! I used to think a backlock was old-fashioned, but Spyderco's approach has really won me over. Back lock is awesome!

There's only one variation of the SPY27 G10 UKPK, and it has four screws. Only the FRN versions have 3 screws.

I will be getting a Metropolitan. Should be interesting to compare to my UKPKs. Interested in trying M398, too.

Awesome knife! Those were a great value. I had one years ago and would happily buy another. One of my favourite Spyderco knives of all time! Glad to see yours is still going strong after 11 years.

Re: Edges w/o a sharpening notch

The sharpener I like using has round stones. I could use my Sharpmaker to get all the way to the plunge, but I prefer my round stones.

I completely get why folks don’t like choils or removing a little cutting edge. I like the way Spyderco does their edges, myself, and it’s easy enough for me to add ...

Re: Edges w/o a sharpening notch

I prefer a sharpening choil, just because the sharpener I use doesn't get all the way to the plunge and I hate leaving a part of the edge unsharpenable. I could just use a different sharpener but I'm pretty set in my ways I guess.

It doesn't bother me that Spydercos typically doesn't have a ...

Re: Delica 4 K390 blade has scratch on the letter area, what’s the cause?

I could be mistaken, but that looks like corrosion, likely from close contact between the blade and the liner in the closed position. Scratching from the liners/scales is normally axial, like an arc, not a straight line.

Re: MagnaMax wish list

I'm in the camp that for me to try it (and I definitely do want to try it at some point!) it would have to be in a 3"-ish folder, like the Native or the UKPK. I've already got both of those models in S110V so I'm in no real rush... S110V does what I need it to do... but I'd enjoy putting a Native in ...

Nice one! The UKPK is one of my personal favorites, too, and I am allowed to carry a locking knife. It's just that good. Under-rated knife in my opinion. I'm usually carrying a UKPK or a Native 5 as they both are great. Enjoy your new Spydie!!

Re: Let's see those well-used knives!

My 5-year old S110V UKPK that I EDC'd a lot for the past few years, pictured here with a newly-purchased backup S110V UKPK that I bought earlier this year. The grind lines on the blade have smoothed out a bit, the handle texture has smoothed out a little too, and there's a bit of color fading, but ...

Re: The Pain of Parting with Knives

I've sold a lot of knives over the years, usually to help pay for something else I thought I wanted. I typically don't regret selling them, especially if it's something I can buy again if I end up missing it.
I do have a 'core' group of two UKPKs and a Native 5 LW (all in S110V) that likely won't ...
