Re: Fishing
Yep I fish, and they call it fishing not catching for good reasons. Only been at it for 78 years. Best small fish, Yellow Perch, the best dang eater there is. Best large fish for me Charlie. Yellowfin Tuna, a hundred pounder will wear you out if you stand up, and they are very good on the table in m...

Re: Thoughts on Hogue Deka?
Mine is out for some serious testing by my son. So far he likes the blade shape and the sharpness. It is holding up very well. AFAIK the heat treat is 61 hrc. And his very first impression like all of us is that handle. Luckily if you don't mind spending another $60 no frills, up to more dollars wit...

Re: What exactly is a CATRA Edge Tester?
I see a lot of people doing BESS tests on various and sundry. What is never revealed is what level of machine they are using. The Home level has very coarse resolution, within 25 grams. So that 125 reading might be 100 or 150. And it is not repeatable. The next level of the tester the Professional h...

Thanks Sal, I know you cannot please everyone. Optimum for some may not be optimum for another. It would still be nice for us to know the hardness that you consider optimum and maybe what some of the criteria were for the selection.

Re: Let's talk Drilling.
I travel and live in my Travel Trailer so space is limited. I found these nice little items on Amazon. A small drill press and a small dual slide table. Taped my scales together, taped the mule on top. Got that on the little table and taped it all to the table. Then put in the proper drill for the p...

Re: Anticipation of: CPM REX T15 in MT34
For edge durability, I like the brass rod torture the Big Brown Bear does. Or the ironwood torture that Phil does. Dig in and twist to stress the edge. Those show edge roll and chipping very well with almost no risk of breaking the knife.

Re: Anticipation of: CPM REX T15 in MT34
Is your "Mule Sense" tingling for the T15 mule? Have any of you experienced T15 in another blade? What do we know about T15...the good, bad & ugly? Spyderco says it's an end mill steel, so that means I need one. Maybe I can chuck it in my mill and use it to drill tapered holes! (Not.)...

Diamond file great for the burrs. To open a hole one might try diamond bits and a moto tool. Those diamonds do a wonder on glass. I loaned my set to a lady that does glass doo dads from bottles.

If your not familiar with the atlatl, here's a neat short slow-mo of an atlatl launch, fwiw.. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XQ_Ukdhdfxc Looks like arrow flights back in the bad old days of cedar shafts. With the advent of the force multiplying bow and the insane hunting crossbows, arrow shafts hav...

Waiting to buy Mules
A newby to this Mule thing. I always try to do a deep dive when I discover something. So far I am not aware that all the information about a mule is available when it is released. HRC is only found after someone or other gets the mule and tests it or has it tested. I can buy 87 zillion knives treate...

Re: MT28P2 - CPM SPY27 Mule Team Release!
Hi Chkn, I created the Mule Team project to provide a way for knife afi's interested in blade steels to be ale to test and compare different blade steels, first hand, on their own. It was a challenging project to bring to the market. I work with a number of foundries to be able to bring these blade...

I think you need to see what the hardness is for your mule. Tungsten carbide may not work. If so, diamond baby.

Re: Does the CBBL spring compress over time?
My Manix was sticking something fierce. I took it apart and found that the ball made an indentation in the front upper spacer that it rests on. I put in a ceramic ball and it helped a lot. Then I took it apart again since there was chatter when pulling back the lock. The machining on that same surfa...

Rust really only needs 3 things: Moisture, oxygen, and heat. Various chemical processes can speed up or retard rust, but keeping moisture and heat down will go a long way to preventing rust on simple steels. Just keeping your knives in a cool, dry location can help maintain the steel. Does it reall...

Re: CPM 15V Sprint sharpening and performance thread
Just an FYI on Venev stones. They use the FEPA F description for "Grit" Most water stones use the JIS. To compare them it is best to microns that are the equivalent. I poked around and found some equivalency charts. Put together this little comparison. FEPA P is the grit for paper. That UR...

Some advanced sharpening tips. Dress the resin stones, remove the clogged metal on the surface. This will provide a cleaner cut bevel with less burnishing from clogged metal rubbing and preventing the surrounding diamond from interacting due to the clogged metal being taller causing the bevel to ri...
