I also prefer the S30V over S110V. Balanced steel is good because it is balanced, and Spyderco's S30V is great.
Good to see someone appreciate the real Military model.

Rit Dye More works great on green Salt 2 (Pic Added)
I dyed my Salt 2 wharncliffe Graphite Grey with Rit Dye More. It was easier than using the regular Rit dye, only took about 10 minutes to completely change color. I used half of the bottle of liquid dye and a teaspoon of dish soap per the instructions. The last time I did this, with regular Rit, it ...

Re: Food Safe Lube/Grease for pivots?
I use Froglube, not sure if there's more than one blend but the ones I use are marked "non-toxic". It is really impressive for corrosion resistance, and works well with PB washer pivots. I'm not sure if it would work with ball bearing pivots or not.

Chisel Ground Spydercos (serrated) Cut Wonderfully
I've been using serrated LC200N Spydercos lately for any utility chore around the house, from opening packages to basic food preparation when I don't have a kitchen knife handy. The knives used have been a UKPK and a Salt 2 Wharncliffe. They cut extremely well. 99% of the time I'm only using the pla...

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Any chance at some insider information on when these will be released? I've never been so excited about a new release... Edited to add: One of the reasons I'm so excited is that I've wanted a large, fully serrated folder for a while but I wasn't interested in a Military or anything with a choil beca...

It looks like an Emerson Persian Tactical. I'm sure it's good for all sorts of things.

Re: Yellow Magnacut :(
The bright yellow didn't stay dyed long after I died mine dark blue. The corners turned yellow after a few weeks in the pocket. I can't stand brightly colored knives. I wouldn't wear bright yellow shoes either, or wear a brightly colored belt. Some things should be black, brown, tan, or olive. I bou...

Re: Food Grade Protectant for Tool Steels
Men of my fathers generation,WW2, all carried carbon steel pocket knives and they stained. Every man had one in his pocket, and if you talk to them, they can tell you stories about the Knife and the ones they lost and still miss. High carbon steel just seems to get sharper. Right now my favorite mo...

Re: Bodacious Discussion
Not all knives can do everything. One aspect of the Shaman that has put me off from giving it a try is exactly the focus on harder and prolonged use. This translates to a thicker and heavier knife in pocket. I realize that many consider theseuseful features in a folding knife, but for others a fold...

Re: Bodacious Discussion
I handled the Bodacious prototype at Blade and knew that this would likely kick my beloved Military out of my pocket, after carrying one or another for the last 15 years. What I like about the Military is the blade length and how flat it carries. The Bodacious has as much cutting edge and should car...

Re: Batoning Enuff 2?
I would only do it in an emergency, but I would expect it to hold up so long as I kept the material being split away from the handle. I used to baton with a knife for fun (as opposed to necessity). After damaging a couple of knives, which will happen eventually if you do it often enough. The knives ...

Re: S30V, S45VN or S90V. Is one of these better?
They are all brittle, so that is a moot point. Please define brittle and tell us about your personal experience with S30V. I own a number of knives, fixed and folding, in S30V from Spyderco, Strider, and White River Knives, as well as from several custom knife makers and have used those knives for ...

Re: S30V, S45VN or S90V. Is one of these better?
I like S30V for a working knife, I find it to hold a useable edge for a very long time. Always long enough to get home and sharpen it. I cut up an entire house worth of carpet with an S30V Military, it stayed "sharp enough" all day. Friend was using a 154CM knife and it went dull quickly, ...

Re: My Spyderco observations from recent unsuccessful Colorado elk hunt…
Great photos. Especially the mountain lion. Some of my favorite photos are blurry, but they remind me of the experience. Leather is terrible for knife sheaths. It's dead skin...gross. Kydex allows air to circulate around the steel. As for your S30V folder rusting, I've noticed the same thing. Even n...

Re: So, Sal, is the Caly3 model extinct ?!
I'm curious, how many of you have purchased the current Caly 3.5 CF that's still being produced? What do you think? Asking because I never bought one. Wanted to, and then the steel selections (in other knives) moved on from ZDP189. I had both the Caly 3 and 3.5 CF/ZDP at different times and ended u...
