Big Brown Bear- who shared his heat treat protocol to bring out the best of this steel. .... I look forward to these posts every year and really appreciate your doing them. You actually m...

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Five-0 is slang for police, so how about a Police 4 model for the Spyderco 50th anniversary knife? I like the way you think! Except i'd want a SS/Ti Police :) Native and Delica has been done already, so.. EDIT: To my knowledge the Endura hasn't been done in a Anniversary model, and it is legendary,...

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
How about this for a 50th anniversary knife? Native 5. Fully serrated damasteel blade. Same handle design as the cf/s90v only make the carbon fiber one of those with red in it, like fat carbon dark matter red or fat carbon lava flow. black and red like the boxes. Teeth, because teeth are great! Hone...

could you elaborate on the materials used on those? they're gorgeous! Sure! They’re all approaching a decade old now (hard to believe) and all three scales were made by Steve Ketchen who was probably the most phenomenal custom scale maker in the US - until he flaked out and made off with a few doze...

Re: Looking For Tips to Darken Micarta with Oil only
Is this not as simple as:
Remove clip
Dab a tiny bit mineral oil onto a paper towel
Wipe oily paper towel spot all over scales
Wipe off any excess oil with a clean paper towel
Leave to “dry” overnight
Wipe off with a clean paper towel again just in case
Reinstall clip
Profit?

Re: New Steel Testing Method! My wife and the cupboard.
I see Rotel and sour cream, so I suspect some sort of dip for chips or tacos. Your wife is learning and she learned a lesson my wife learned, almost. I wife now hates liner locks and won't touch them. She really likes back locks, though. You nailed it! 4 versions of homemade chip dip! And after lov...

Re: Black Linen Micarta instead CF/G-10 please
I prefer G-10 over CF and prefer cf over micarta. I even prefer FRN over micarta. I don’t hate micarta, but it doesn’t have any features or attributes that makes it superior to G10/cf/FRN.

Re: Frankenstein titanium UKPK?
Hi, not sure why you found it odd that the washers came in a little baggie outside the scale box. TiTech only makes the scales, and washers are bought in bulk for pennies each. As for why they’re needed, all UKPKs use some form of washers. The stock G10 and Ti ones use the same PB washers as what H...

Re: Frankenstein titanium UKPK?
Yesterday I received my HH Ti Titech kit for the FRN UKPK. Shipping was pretty quick from the UK to the US. The kit was sealed in a little box with shrink wrap. The bronze washers were in a plastic bag taped to the outside of the box. That was odd. It wasn't difficult to install. It seems obvious to...

Re: Spyderco SLIPITs SE question
I'd guess because they weren't great sellers? Within the past few months, I purchased a couple of new serrated lil Natives. IIRC, Both had date codes of around 2017 or 2018. Maybe they regularly make these and I got "lucky"? Or maybe the initial production runs are still in the sales chann...

Re: Spyderco backlocks : why is the stop pin an exception, instead of being the norm ?
alternatively, stop pins could be external . One finds this on framelocks or linerlocks sometimes. The stop pins on Striders are external (they look like thumb studs). The Kershaw Leek is like this too iirc. IF one found additional stop pins to be necessary, this might be simpler to implement. Are t...
