Re: Military 2. What exactly is going on?

If only it had the Stop lock, as it rumoured years ago....comp lock is ok, but the stop lock would be something different. Is the Parata the only Spyderco that currently features a stop lock? Looks almost like a compression lock but actuated with thumb studs. Correct. It is kind of a shame, because...

Re: Want to go to the big leagues....Manix 2 XL or Military

I would say Caribbean. Sharpened blade length of Military in PM2 size package. Caribbean, along with Military is very high on my list. (Un) fortunately, I gave a word that I will not buy any other knife this year, so next year it will be Caribbean or Millie. Like, Manix XL is nice, but the blade is ...

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

In terms of design, the closest knife I could find to the 'Rock Chopper' is the (now discontinued) Bark River Grasso Bolo I: With a 7" blade, 5.5mm thick, saber convex grind, the Bolo I is 18oz. So we could reasonably guess that a 6mm Rock Chopper in FFG would be around 15o-16oz, which would be awe...

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

I don't know, I've seen pictures of an H-1 Rock that got bent from chopping (was it a coconut? ) H-1 is great stuff, but for heavy impact use like chopping, I really question if it has the strength to handle it. Seems like CPM 4V or 3V or even 1095 would handle the stress a lot better than H-1. 109...

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

I know that it is a part of desing, and a way how to have more mass in front, but the damm recurve is just !!! I don't like recurves, can't sharpen them easily with a stone.

Re: Anyone else dislike the wire pocket clip?

Yes, I´d too take spoon clip over a wire clip on any knife, despite I do like the latter on Chap and Manix LW. So far my Chap has not developed that little gap between scale and clip you mentioned, but then I don´t carry it clipped very often (but just throw it into a zippered pocket or a running p...

Re: Smart Phones

I have HTC wildfire for 7 years and I was ok with it. It was old, beat up, but to be honest, I did not use most of the fuctions at all, just calling, texting and listening for MP3. After I met my current GF, I realized that I cant even install Viber or Whatsapp to my old phone, because of old OS. So...

Re: Is it possible to sharpen knives by only stroping?

Yes and no. A lot of times your edge is not completly gone, it just need to be straightened. And stropping could do it. So in theory, you could keep your knife sharp, if you strop it after every light use. In practice, after so much of stropping, your edge will be too weak and it will not be able to...

Re: Anyone else dislike the wire pocket clip?

Pancake, I must say: The NON-deep carry wire clip on the Manix 2 LW works perfectly well on this rather light knife! No retention problems whatsoever. Actually, I personally think good retention is even more important when it comes to small, short folders, since they are more likely to turn or work...

Re: Anyone else dislike the wire pocket clip?

I only have one :spyder: with wire clip, Chaparral LW, and Ii like it ok. But, it just don't have the retention of a spoon clip. I think on anything bigger then Chaparral I want spoon clip. Once upon a time I want to buy Caly 3.5 LW(when it comes), but that wire is just a no for me. Spoon clip, as d...

Re: Best Steel For Small Hand Saws? Toughness or Wear Resistance?

I saw those Japanese hand saws by Silky on DLTTrading, and ended up suggesting one of those as part of a gift for survival type stuff. They look sweet. In fact I’ll probably pick one up myself. Don’t know which would be best in hiking/survival type scenario (fine, medium, coarse tooth). I would say...

Re: Best Steel For Small Hand Saws? Toughness or Wear Resistance?

Axe head weight, head profile and handle are more important than steel. Match the axe style with the purpose.

As for saws, I agree that good japanese brand like Silky is a win. I have some no name brand folding saw in SK-3 steel and it saws good. And like what else do you want from saw? :D

I would contact CS and tell them about the situation. Maybe you dye the handle, but you did nothing to the hardware. Worst case you just pay for the repair.

Re: Schempp Rock 'Chopper' idea

I think there is a difference between „any“ chopper and competition chopper. Competition choppers are built to some rules and they are kinda niche in their usage, just to cut certain things. Non-competition chopper could have been made to a different set of parameters. I would like to see competitio...

I think the fluted CF Military would be a great looking knife. The only problem I see with it would be the price. It would be expensive.
It would be hecking expensive! More so in Europe, when the plain Jane S30V sell for like 190-220 €....

Re: PRICING

Did you know that I bought Manix 2 REX45 G10 for 175 €? Now you know it. I think that was fair price. I think that's a fair price for the knife too. It's not a great deal but it's worth every bit of that for real world use. If I make my mind sooner, I could get it for less, maybe 15 € less....on th...
