Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

Oh man, remembering my login info for this forum has been bad.. In another thread, I was calling for a Starmate in carbon fiber and a high end steel. Well it hit me, wasn’t I talking about a Gayle Bradley? So I hunted and lo, an order was placed. I’ve reached my new knife quota for 2020 in April..

So you can block dye by painting on some nail polish, dye as you do, and then remove the nail polish with acetone.

Re: SpyderEdge 2020 (A Personal "Challenge")

I like SE, and I find them easy to sharpen after carrying serrations for the last couple months, but repairing an tooth that gets badly damaged is exponentially more difficult than repairing a plain edge. I’m going to have to send my SE Caribbean in because one of the teeth got folded over 180 degr...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

A Vallotton Subhilt, it took me awhile to come around to this one but I’ve always been intrigued by it. Besides I just found a professionally sharpened but otherwise mint one for a price I could impulse buy at.

Re: Spyderco Models From 2010 & Earlier That You Wish To Return

The ProGrip would be awesome with some updated materials. The Stretch-like blade shape works great in smaller models too. The ProGrip was where I started so maybe I’m just nostalgic. Absolutely bring back the Catcherman, I’ve seen so many people calling for it. I think it has a lot of potential to b...

Re: Spyderco's Hawkbills: General Uses, Model Preferred?

So I’ve got a SE Tasman I use when I’m swimming. The one that gets carried most is a PE lil matriarch, when I run at night. That VG10 gets sticky sharp in a hurry, but when I used it to cut a square of carpet I was surprised by how sharp it remained. I wonder if the edge shape had something to do wi...

Re: Back lock action

I’ve never really tried flicking with anything but my thumb, I’m kinda boring like that, but I’m all my backlocks except one the blade flies open with barely any more effort than my Military. When I talk about a drop shut backlock I just mean the blade falls on it’s own when I disengage the lock. It...

Re: How’s the Native Salt treating you?

I have a Native 5 lightweight. It has a nice action. Why should the Salt be any different? Is there a different team making them? Good to know! Never tried a LW Native, hence my question. Honestly, I think it’s entirely possible that there would be differences between manufacturing runs. I’ve got t...

Re: How’s the Native Salt treating you?

Had a (S35VN) Native LW once, the action and especially the execution of the backlock were great. No blade play as far as I remember. So I am just wondering: Why should the Native Salt be "worse" in general than the also linerless "regular" Native LW? Differences are just the type of steel and colo...

Re: How’s the Native Salt treating you?

No problems with mine. Used it quite a bit before rotating out to my Pacific for the late summer. I like a suspended wax lube for the pivot like White Lightning seems to work best. I can easily one-hand close quickly and easily. Keep in mind the toothpaste treatment does work, takes a little time b...

How’s the Native Salt treating you?

Hey all, quick question: how’s that Native Salt treating you?

See I’ve had an M4 Native and that backlock action was a revelation. It was so smooth, that if the action on the Salt is as stiff as my Tasman I’m gonna be very disappointed.

So how do you guys like yours?

Re: Folder Pocketclips: Time For New Styles Maybe?

To me a good clip is: 1) Secure 2) Easy to draw 3) Easy to pocket 4) Sturdy 5) Comfortable in the hand All I care about is how it works. Concealing my knife is not a requirement at all. Does anyone really think that a coworker, LEO or anyone else actually looking at your pockets is fooled by a deep ...

Re: Post up your Rit dye projects..

Here's my orange Dragonfly. The florescent orange was peeking out of my pocket like a shining beacon so I did a Dark Brown, Cherry Red fade. The photo looks like three distinct sections but it is a smooth transition in real life. https://i.imgur.com/uBtJY2U.jpg This is totally awesome. I’m looking a...

Re: How do you find your favorite type of steel? (School Project)

For a few people there’s a lot of citizen science involved. They do independent Rockwell testing, cut testing, edge testing and so forth. For those of us who try to make educated opinions on what we want from a steel, we owe a great deal. Knifesteelnerds.com is a great example of this. I recently st...
