Re: Anyone else interested in a LW Native Chief?

The Chief is my new favorite Spyder, so I'm definitely up for a LW and/or Salt version. The only variations I wouldn't buy are S90V or M4.

Real world toughness of V-Toku2?

The insert for V-Toku2 Spyders says this steel is “renowned for its toughness at high hardness”. I have no idea how hard Spyderco actually ran it, but I'm wondering if anyone has abused theirs, and what were the results?

Re: Taichung Mid Backlocks

Backlocks are the only ones I trust to carry loose in my pocket. I only carry other locks clipped, with the spine against the seam of my pocket.

Re: Spyderco Manufacturing Location question.

Spyderco values the long term relationships they have established with the makers they currently use. They are also looking to increase US production. Would it make sense for them to invest the considerable time and money needed to bring new makers, in new countries, up to speed? I don't know.

Re: Spyderco Manufacturing Location question.

From what I understand, Spyderco doesn’t have any of their own production facilities overseas. They work with established independent makers, who produce knives to their specs for them.

Re: Chief/Endura photo request

Thanks, that's really appreciated! :) Chief looks perfect in size for my needs... / Looking at the pics: Do you carry the Chief clipless? Or in the left pocket? I am left handed, so I carry it in the back of my my left front pocket. I usually carry two other knives, with clips set up right-handed. ...

Re: Spyderco Knives

For a first Spyderco folder, I would recommend looking into the Para 3 Lighweight. For around $90 US street price, it incorporates many of the unique features Spyderco is known for (lightweight FRN scales, compression lock, left/right side wire clip, excellent ergos), and, is made in the US (If that...

To answer the OP's question: MAP $113.75.

The MSRP is listed as $175 on Spyderco's site. MAP = 65% of MSRP

What I'd really like is if they use a handle color other than black. Don't mind black but I already have several with black' I'd much prefer some color.

Totally agree with you, but that’s another windmill to tilt at ;)

Steel preference for Caly 3.5 LW?

Although there’s no official word, it looks like, from what Sal has posted, the Caly 3.5 LW will be made in Taichung, Taiwan. If this is the case, the standard steel will likely change from VG-10. We could be surprised, but I believe CTS-XHP and S30V are the most likely candidates. Please vote for y...

I would love to see a Manix 2 LW in XHP available at a reasonable price again. Regular production would be my first choice, but another exclusive or sprint would also be good.

Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?

I cannot wait for the Caly 3.5 Lightweight. I'm hoping it has XHP, like the Chaparral. If it is going to be made in Taiwan, then the standard steel will likely not be VG-10. I would love for it to be CTS-XHP, but please Spyderco, whatever you do, don't use S30V! It just seems so wrong for this mode...

Re: CTS-XHP Thread

XHP is a great stainless steel no doubt about it, but I prefer M390 over it. It feels like the same steel but turned up one notch in every single attribute. Same amazing fine edge holding if not even better, coupled with better stain resistance and ease of sharpening. I don't own any knife in XHP a...
