Sterile ATS-34 Police Model

Hello Spyderco friends!

I had the good fortune of finding an unusual Spyderco Police Model, and wanted to share it with you all. Some things that (I think?) are notable:
  • ATS-34 steel, which I believe never appeared in a Spyderco catalog on a Police Model.
  • Interesting orange peel texture on the handle, with very visible contrast to the pins.
  • Some indicators of hand finishing, which make me wonder if this wasn't ordinary production.
  • No "POLICE" marking on the blade!
The knife is running and cutting beautifully after a little bit of work. The G-2 steel C07P was the first locking knife I ever carried, and I'm really happy to have one in the family again.

If anyone can tell me more about this particular example, I'd like to hear about it!

Hi Vanadium,

Welcome to our forum.

Is the handle Titanium?

Hi Sal,

I hadn't considered that possibility. It certainly seems to be non-magnetic!

Hi Vanadium,

One of our dealers did an exclusive run of fully serrated Police models with Titanium scales. Then customers were asking for a non exclusive version, so we made the 50/50 serrated version with Titanium scales. We did one run.

Do the titanium Police Models all lack the typical "POLICE" engraved on the blade? I was surprised to see it absent, but looking on the web now, it seems to be not entirely unheard of.

The name changed or was omitted depending on the market at the time. The first model (2400 pieces) was Marked, Pride-Integrity-Guts"(what is now known as the "PIG" model). Some said Police Model, some said Police, some didn't say anything.

I only have two examples, but neither has "POLICE" on the blade. Since there was only one run, I assume none of them are marked.

As I recall, Jeff Loffer of Cutlery Shoppe was the one who ordered the full SpyderEdge Titanium version.
