NFL Season: 2019-2020

I don't know how Watson survived that double team sack attempt!
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
That would be an interesting "roll of the dice" so to speak. But I'm still baffled as to why some college coaches like Nick Saban for instance can be the "Bill Belichick" of college coaches but yet be an abysmal failure in the NFL   I do think at some point Saban is going to want to try again at coaching in the NFL.MacLaren wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 6:29 pmI see where your comin from JD. With his mediocre, lackluster resume I can't even imagine what respectable football organization would touch him with a 50 ft pole
He's just one on a long list of guys who was a really decent coordinator that just couldn't get it done as a head coach. GOD knows the Chief's organization has sure had their share of those bozos  i.e. Romeo Crenel, Todd Haley, Gunther Cunningham and I could go on longer with the coach failures that the Chiefs have endured over the years.
I think he could get an offensive coordinator's job but I don't see anyone with even two brain cells hiring him as a head coach. I just can't believe that Jerry Jones put up with his failures as long as he did![]()
If I were Jerry Jones, the 1st person I would call would be Dabo Sweeney of Clemson. Prolly couldn't make him budge from Clemson, ( I think Dabo will replace Saban, when Saban retires ) but it would sure be worth a shot. Imo, Dabo Sweeney is at this time the best College if not including the Pros the best coach in the game right now. Its utterly amazing what Sweeney has done at Clemson. The players would kill for him....
I truly believe Big Mike could take that current roster might just go Superbowl his first year. Because McCarthy is not the timid "Don't Take Any Chances" type coach that Jason Garrett obviously was. I believe Big Mike is the one guy that could really get the Cowboys the prime time respect they used to have. Oh Sure I could name off at least 3 college coaches that might do well in the NFL ranks. But for a team like the Cowboys I would want someone who is a true tested NFL coach. And GOD knows that Jerry Jones could afford him too.
Take a proven NFL coach over a College coach.
I can see that. But, if I were to gamble on a college coach, it would most definitely be Dabo Sweeney.
Furthermore, I think you may have nailed it with McCarthy!
I really cant think of anyone else. For me, it would be him or try to get Dabo out of Clemson.
But I still can't fully understand why Barry Switzer who was a coach god so to speak in the college ranks but kind of faded away in the NFL. There are just so many strange anomalies in the two different coaching domains of College and the NFL. And now with this new XFL there are going to be several more viable coaching opportunites arise in the pro ranks too.
I just seen on a newswire that Mike McCarthy did indeed interview today for the Cowboy's coaching job. To me it's just a no-brainer and a slam dunk. They would be a fool to pass him up. If nothing else just at least give him two years to see if he could gel with that organization. Because McCarthy wouldn't need 10 years like Garrett got  I bet within two years McCarthy could have the Cowboys in a Superbowl appearance.

Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
I got a gut feeling that they have already decided on McCarthy>> but I got another piece of news this evening that just totally floored me  !!! The Cowboys also interviewed Marvin Lewis today as well  !! This has got to be a really bad joke
You have just got to be kidding me  I wouldn't hire Marvin Lewis as an equipment manager much less anything near a head coaching position. With the absolute abhorrent job he did with the Bengals in about 14 years + I don't see how this guy would even have the gall to put himself out as a head coach :o . That is nothing short of pathetic
It had to be some kind of quota filling maneuver on behalf of the Cowboys just to say that they gave so many people interviews before hiring who they really want,. I'm sure the NFL has a strict criteria for hiring new head coaches. But ****!!! I would have interviewed one of the fans before I would have interviewed Marvin Lewis  That's just bad humor any way you look at it :o

He channeled his inner "elusive Eli" from the Superbowl on the David Tyree (Syracuse alum) helmet catch play! That was incredible. I was pulling for the Bills, but Watson earned it with that play.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 7:30 pmI don't know how Watson survived that double team sack attempt!

Yeah I pretty much thought that. But I didn't want folks to think I'm biggoted in any way>> because I'm not at all. But if they have to do the "race quota" I can fully understand that. But the KC Chiefs have an African American coach i.e. Eric Bieniemy who I think has the potential of being a great head coach. Andy Reid has gone on record saying that he doesn't want to lose him>> but on the other hand would highly recommend him for a head coaching position.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 8:04 pmJD- It's called the Rooney Rule (regarding Marvin Lewis interview)
What Eric Bieniemy has done with our running back situation since the Kareem Hunt debacle has been nothing short of genius IMO. Truly I was hoping he would stay on here until Andy Reid would retire and they could have Bieniemy take his place.
But Marvin Lewis is truly nothing short of an embarrassment to everyone involved. I wouldn't recommend him in anything above high school coaching positions. Another coordinator just like Jason Garrett that never panned out as a head coach. No team in the NFL is going to hire Marvin Lewis>> no NFL team could be that stupid. I would be extremely doubtful if the XFL would even want him.

Anyone would be crazy to hire Marvin Lewis. Imo, anyways.
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
I will be very depressed if the Cowboys hire Marvin Lewis, IMO he is too similar to Jason Garrett
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
Hallelujah!!!!!! We won't have to take on the EVIL EMPIRE in these playoffs. Lord Brady is officially out of the playoffs :) . I was so impressed with the Titan's defense tonight. For some reason I kept thinking that the Titans were going to blow it like so many teams have done in the past.
It appears the Chiefs will be taking on the Texans here at ARROWHEAD next week. They said earlier in the week that the Titans if they won would not be the Chief's opponent.
It is so refreshing to have some new blood in this upcoming Superbowl IMO. I just hope the Chiefs don't get upset next week. It's like Yogi Berra always said "It's Never Over Until It's Over". I haven't been this happy in over 3 months :D

The N.F.C. Playoffs are gonna be really great imo.
Should be a decent game between the Vikings & Saints tomorrow.

Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
Oh don't jump the gun MAC >> because the way the Titans played tonight I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for them to also upset the Ravens>> I think that Vrabel is going to be another Bill Walsh the way he's already coaching. Personally I wouldn't bet over $10 on any of these games right now. The only one I'm fairly certain about is that I'm pretty sure the Seahawks are going to beat the Eagles. The Eagles won their division by "default" by the Cowboys laying an egg all season long. They should not have won that division at all.
But I am predicting the Vikings to beat the Saints. Really I don't think anyone has it sowed up yet.
However if by some miracle the Chiefs can get homefield advantage with the Titans upsetting the Ravens next week I do think they'll get AFC Crown this year. But again as weird as this season has been I wouldn't bet any serious money on any team winning it all yet.
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
The problem with the Titans is, their not built for a shootout. They get into a game with the Ravens or Chiefs and go down 17-3...chances are the game is over for them. They have a very strong defense and running game, but if they were to fall behind by more that 14 or so, I think their in trouble.
Still, great win for them tonight!! Love seeing some different teams advance

Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
And you could have something there. But I'm still not counting out either the Chiefs or Ravens either one being upset next week. Because it's just been that type of a season. I'm about 80% convinced the Chiefs will win at ARROWHEAD stadium next week but again I wouldn't bet more than $10 on any of these next 4 games coming up.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 9:50 pmThe problem with the Titans is, their not built for a shootout. I think truly the Vikings have a real shot at upsetting the Saints tomorrow. But if the Eagles upset the Seahawks that would have to be the playoff upset of the past decade. The Eagles got in the post season by nothing but default.
But I was a serious gambler I would take the Titans next week in an upset over the Ravens. Because the Titans Coach Mike Vrabel is already showing signs of being a premier NFL coach IMO. It's been really interesting to say the least :)
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
Oh no SpyderGirl it's not even that close. Even as mundane and mediocre as Jason Garrett has been as a head coach he's still a few rungs up the ladder from the likes of Marvin Lewis. Marvin Lewis did literally "NOTHING" in all the years he coached the Bengals. Garrett at least made a couple of playoff appearances.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 8:45 pmI will be very depressed if the Cowboys hire Marvin Lewis, IMO he is too similar to Jason Garrett
I do think that Jason Garrett should just go back to being an offensive coordinator>> and I wouldn't even object to him being an OC for Dallas. But the man is not a head coach period. Him and Marvin Lewis both aren't even close to having any head coaching talent at all. But Garrett is still a lot smarter than Marvin Lewis even with all his failures being considered.
Marvin Lewis truly ranks of one of the NFL's top 10 worst coaches ever IMO. I think there might be a glimmer of hope for Jason Garrett however>> but not to head coach in the immediate future.
Re: NFL Season: 2019-2020
OK here's my Wild Card Weekend Predictions for today's NFC playoff games. I'm predicting the Vikings to upset the Saints by 9 points.
However in the game between the Seahawks and Eagles I don't give Carson Wentz and Co. even a long shot chance against the Seahawks. The Eagles shouldn't even be in the playoffs IMO.
I do agree that Wentz has been better these last two weeks than he has most of the season but I still rank him as a "paper tiger" at best  But I don't see the Seahawks going any further after this game.
But I might be going back to a diet of "crow" if I'm wrong again :o

Great call on the Vikings!! How did you figure that??
I wouldve bet A LOT, that the Saints would win.
Way 2 go Joe!!
