This is by far the worst Spyderco I have ever owned. I have a sage 1 and 2 sage 5's and they are awesome. Along with about 20 other Spyderco's that i love. When i got this 6, the action was non existent. Barely moved...just gritty. If there is a quality control dept then they missed this one. What a piece of junk. Honestly, its a piece of crap. I cannot believe I received this in a Spyderco knife. So I tried to check the washers, they looked shot. All scratched and deep grooves. Like they had sand in there or something. All torn up. I tried to polish them etc. but they were too far gone. I didn't intend to remove the second indent but it just flew out as soon as I took off the scale. I guess I should have just sent it back immediately. For 300....what a joke

If you love Spyderco that much why wouldn’t you have just sent it back instead of the trash talking? Or send it back now, just give them a call.

Where did you buy it from? I have heard of people trashing knives, buying a new one and returning the old one in the new box. Maybe something like this happened.

Just send it in to Spyderco, they will make it right. The only thing I have found better than Spyderco Knives is Spyderco customer service. It's what keeps me coming back, anyone can make a decent knife, but the customer service makes the difference.

The knife has been taken apart and modified by hand sanding and removing components. At this point, the warranty can reasonably be considered voided. Any customer service department would be well within their rights to decline service under these circumstances. That said, as the saying goes, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease." This thread will likely result in a replacement being offered.

You are defiantly right, Spyderco always has gone above and beyond. Especially Sal, I remember when he bought a Mule back from a guy who was complaining, to put it mildly, about a scratch they put on their own knife.

Greetings all, I wanted to get a thread going where new owners of the highly anticipated Sage 6 "Button Lock" model could come and compare notes & to also have somewhere that perspective buyers could get some insight into what they can expect when they join the Sage 6 owners club. ;)

I've only had mine for a few hours and I'm going to spend at least another day (possibly two) before I submit anything significant other than to say it feels very much like the OG Sage5 CF in hand, and the button functions in a very 'Smock' like way, which I knew going in, but somehow in my mind I was half expecting it to feel or act more like a classic plunge lock, purely my own silliness. It's fit & finish are what I've seen in all the recent Sage models, which is to say: spot on.

Pictures & some real hands on thoughts coming soon... I hope we can make this post a useful resource.

Cheers,

John
.

I realize this particular thread is getting old but I'm going to throw this out there . . .

I got both the S30V & S90V models the second I was able, and removed the detent balls from both, interestingly the S30V version was great the moment I put the scale back on, no tuning, it was just on point.

I repeated the process with the S90V version and for the life of me I could not get it dialed in no matter what I tried, then yesterday the set of AWT scales I ordered arrived and I put 'em on my S90V rig (I did NOTHING else) and now it is BEYOND perfection, I can't explain why but holy crap just drop-shut perfection, even better than by S30V version which I would have given 10/10 score, now I guess I'd say it's 9/10, I am dumbfounded.

I plan to take my 30x loupe to my CF scales from my S90V rig and see if I anything looks off in the slightest.

Anyhow, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Cheers,

John

Things like that, I like to loosen all the screws up and pound the knife in the palm of my hand a few times on each edge and tighten the screws up and see where I am at.

Then if that doesn't produce anything positive, I will loosen all the screws up and pop the blade open against the blade stop, pretty firm and snap it hard against it a few times, then snug the screws up a little at a time and check the knife again.

I had one of my many Police4 's I put G10 scales on that gave me fits like this one of yours, but I was determined it was going to be just like all the others I did.

Interesting that the AWT scales fixed that issue for you. Any pictures of the knife with the new scales?

Just got mine that I won in the 2026 calendar competition. Thank You Spyderco Team! After carrying it for a day I have absolutely zero complaints. As I am getting older the button activated compression lock is going to be a real blessing. Dexterity goes down with age, especially if one deals with the arthritis or similarly debilitating condition. Love the ergos, size, scales are superb and it’s an ideal EDC. So glad that I took part in this wonderful event! Cheers!

Awesome! Glad to hear you're loving yours. Can't wait for mine!! Had the lock with the Smock and enjoyed it a lot, I think it will be even better with the Sage, at least for me because I prefer the Sage to the Smock. Itching for this knife!

I had my Sage 6 s90v tuned to perfection after removing the detent ball and had been loving it. Then, I lost it at the range. Funny part is, I know I was only ever between my car and the spot where I was sighting in. I spent about an hour scouring that 20 foot stretch. It's all just gravel and concrete there so nowhere for it to disappear or fall into a crack. There was one other group of people there (a dad and his kids), so I'm almost positive one of them ended up with my s90v sprint. Asked them if they saw anything when they came in and of course nothing.

Devastated. I was wearing a new shirt for the first time and the seam must have snagged on the clip is the only thing I can think of. Never lost a knife before like that so of course it's my favorite and most expensive knife and one I'll likely never be able to get again :(

I'll eventually buy the regular Sage 6 but I'm still in mourning, lol.

Received the Sage 6 sprint run today and very pleased with the fit and finish, as to be expected from Taichung. The edge is even on both sides and ends nice and close to the ricasso. Super slicey and sharp blade. Beautiful scales and the action is good, however needs some breaking in.

I removed the second detent on my Smock but don't think ill do that with the Sage. It doesn't bother me opening or closing.

Wire clip is deep enough, so it's likely this knife will be kept stock 🤗

Being a fan of the Native 5 I always took a pass on the Sage as I thought it was too similar. There are quit some differences between the two, with the thinner blade stock on the Sage being the biggest one and the flat scales. I do prefer the blade on the Sage a bit more than the Native, gotta love that slicey blade 😎
