I think the Sage 6 will be great, and I’m looking forward to it.

But I am a little disappointed that it won’t be hosting Spyderco’s excellent ball-bearing lock, at least not yet. Maybe the Sage 7?

The Sage5s are my only Sage blades, but they immediately booted the Para3 out of heavy rotation. Once the Sage6 drops, in almost any other steel, I’m sure it will jump to the top. S30V is meh at best and S90V would be okay except I don’t want to pay the CF tax. Oddly enough, one of the only knives I still have in S30V is the Smock.

Agreed regarding the para 3 but my sage 5s are FRN vs g10 para 3 (I actually prefer FRN in this size knife). My Spy 27 has been getting more pocket time than I would have thought. I have owned a sage 2 for years before the semi-recent sage 5 purchase and never really jelled wit it but have been carrying the 5 more than any other spyderco for the last couple of months 🤷

Quite notably when in hand, the Sage 5 production right now is absolutely dialed, what they're producing is right on the mark for this design.
I don't even think this button addition to the 6 will really effectively make me carry the 5 any less just for the novelty of the push button itself. I already operate well with the Comp lock. I'm still excited for the 6 to try it and also add to my potential carry rotation, but it's going to be hard to beat the Sage 5 in its current production quality form.
Going back to Caly.

My SPY27 Sage5 arrived today. It’s my fourth variant of the variant, and “dialed” they are.

Thanx much for the comments and feedback.

The Sage design has a bit of a story. We had begun working with a new maker in Taiwan and we needed a design for him to build. The design took a while as I had planned for variations in locks for future models so ergos were critical. 3" blade length is readily accepted in most societies. A model with a finger choil adds the needed purchase for larger hands.

A percentage of sales goes to Alzheimer's research and we've been doing that since we began the model. (In house design so the royalties that would go to a designer is given to Alzheimer's)

So we needed a design that was fairly neutral that would stick around for a while. Good for the customer, good for the maker and good for us. I have always applauded Buck for their ability to create and keep a design like the 110 in the line for decades. I was one of those that purchased a 110 when they first came out in the 60's. A Watershed creation that changed he industry.......and they are still around. Awesome!

Thanx to you that appreciate the work.

Thanks for the insights Sal. Always appreciated!
The sage 5 FRN (I don’t have a g10 so can’t comment) is very impressive and like others have said, is dialed in. Build quality is up there.

Would love to see the blade tip on Sage 6 to be buried deeper into the handle in the closed position. On the Sage 5 Salt the blade tip is almost too close to the handle, wouldn't take a few sharpenings to expose the tip.

I've actually been running into this issue lately with a number of models (not even just Spyderco either), and it's become something I actively check with every new knife anymore. Sold my own Sage 5 Salt for the same reason. Thankfully wharncliffe blades rarely have this kind of problem and I find my daily drivers moving more and more in that direction.

Sweeeet!

I asked this once before but didn't get a response:

Is there any issue with accidentally pushing in the button and releasing the blade? Or is the button recessed?

@Bolster
That was the first thing I checked when I saw the Sage 6 at Shot Show 2025. The button is in a great position to avoid any problems.

In the video, I held with a thumb on spine grip and a choked up hammer grip with no issues causing any kind of unwanted disengagement.
