Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes
The Gayle Bradley 2 appears to be about the same length as the 1. Is that right?
SCARAMOUCHE!

This year is great for me so far, minus the ARK. I can't wait for the Firefly either...I think the catalog says VG-10 and made in Japan. Doesn't seem like the correct steel or maker if you ask me. Seems like it should be a Taichung knife...

I don't envisage needing the ARK for it's intended use but for a handy, no rust knife to have around - I can see it as a winner!

That Bradley looks very sleek! Would be good to have a comparison against the first.

The GB2 looks nice! Definitely something I'd be more likely to regularly carry than the original.

I like the Bradley 2, at a glance it reminds me of the Starmate. I can safely say I'll pass on the rest so far.

The GB2 looks awesome! Ill take 2!!!
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes
The GB2 is pretty close to the original sizewise, I didn't take measurements but had the original on me to compare.
(I was already really hoping we'd get to see the GB2..) :)

Arrrrgh. I have been looking forward to see some super clear shots of the Endeavor since January, was all set for it to appear in alphabetical order after the Dogtag, and Wouter has jumped straight to the Firefly... 's not funny toying with a chap like that. :p :D

The GB 2 is very 550 Griptillian in appearance, not a bad thing, just my first impression
Re: Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes
I also had BM in mind but to me the handle looks very 710 in appearance. Now that you mention Griptillian i can really see that too. It's almost like they married the two designs together.twinboysdad wrote:The GB 2 is very 550 Griptillian in appearance, not a bad thing, just my first impression

Re: Spyderco 2015 Production Prototype – Gayle Bradley Folder 2
Yeah I see what you mean but the GB2 is way nicer.
I think Mr. Bradley has an amazing design here and it is a must buy for me.

Why doesn't Spyderco do this in the U.S.?
I'm jealous! I admit it :o :spyder:

GB 2 Rocks!!
Hi Folks!
GB 2 Rocks!!!
I always thought it'd be quite difficult to enhance such a great design as the GB 1.
But GB 2 did it!. And did it greatly. :)
Now it seems to be very high on my list. Like those blades so great that you buy 2 of them at first chance. :D

Firstly, I must say that us US folks are really blessed when it comes to this hobby. Just a brief description of what the EU folks have to go through to get these knives had me crying on the inside. We whine about anything more than 60% MSRP; they're lucky to get it for anything close to MSRP after import duties, shipping etc. Also, in the US there are many distributors and that keeps prices competitive. From what I understand, in many EU countries there is only one distributor and they have a monopoly on what you can get in B&M stores there (thus avoiding import duty and shipping). That's not to say EU people are getting universally gouged, but there are many circumstances preventing them for getting knives at the prices we have access to. So you're jealous of them this once, and they're jealous of us the whole rest of the year. I had no concept of this before speaking with them, so I just feel the need to relay how blessed we are in the US.MacLaren wrote:Why doesn't Spyderco do this in the U.S.?

I talked to Sal a bit about it, as I had the same question, and this meet stems from when he was visiting his European distributors. Amsterdam was a good central hub to visit different places. Obviously when they were smaller cost was a concern, and he would stay there and do a day trip to several different countries over the course of a few days. Not sure how this morphed into the Amsterdam meet with showing the protos to the ELUs, but that's the basis for why it's held there.
