Hmmm, I thought the ATR had an integral compression lock.

Like this - integral on Ti one, nested on the blue one.

Thanks for the image, Billy, that explains things quite nicely.

I really like the current handle shape, they fit quite good... So I´m not too sure about the new, thinner handle. I guess I have to wait and see  .

If it counts± please make it a steel wich can be sharpend on a sharpmaker i.e. VG/10 or CPM/S30V. ZDP is `too much` for me, espescially for us that would like this knife to be a user...
I can perfectly (well... ) sharpen VG10 or CPMS30V, but ZDP gives me a lot of trouble. Guess it´s Rc is too high.

I´d better try and find an old one I guess.

I'm pretty sure the stainless steel Cricket has that style lock, too.

Good point. I find ZDP very easy to sharpen, but it has in my experience been a bit brittle and subject to chipping in SE knives. I would prefer either of those steels, but would really get excited about BG-42. :)

That one's clearly a compression lock. Note the bar being between the blade and the pin.

Hi Sal,

Thank you for asking for our thoughts. For a user, I would love to see the new Lil’ Temperance in Titanium with integral compression lock or Titanium integral compression lock on front side with G-10 on back side. However, if I had to choose between the 2, I will take the Titanium integral compression lock on front side with G-10 on back side. In terms of eye candy, it would be Carbon fiber with full liners.

Well, Carbon Fiber is pretty pricey, and TI isn't easy to process. Far as i can remember a new FRN handle would require new molds(?) so that would make G10 the most cost effective(?)

Is a trailing point version a possibility?

Is it not the case that a titanium lock would tend to wear more quickly that a steel lock? I believe this is the case with liner locks.

Sal, I have for some time considered breaking the corner on the top of my blade at the end of the thumb ramp. It would change the lines of the knife a little, but I think even a small radius would make it a lot more comfortable. Maybe something to consider.

We've re-designed the model, ...

The new design eliminates the two points at the bottom of the handle. While they provided good "grip", they eliminated "edge in" grip and there were compaints of overall width. The new variation is not quite as wide.

Clip has not been determined, although a 4 way wire is being considered. E4/D4 "4 way" is also a possibility

Compression lock has been retained, but is being refined.

Thickness has been reduced. Current handle thoughts are:

G-10 with nested liners, but thinner than first model.
Carbon fiber with full liners.
Titanium with integral compression lock.
Titanium integral compression lock on fron side with G-10 on back side.
FRN with nested liners.

...

Any thoughts?

Late to the party, as usual

But this is great to hear. My Lil Temp PE 440V is my all time favorite heavy duty hard use folder. No contest. If it is not strong enough for the job, it is fixed blade time. My only complaints about the original were the handle did not fit my small hands/short fingers (too wide especially at lower end, and finger cutouts never work for me) so I reshaped the handle to be more like the Chinook II, and I did not like the clip - too stiff and made the handle even fatter, so I just took it off. After that the combination of the blade configuration, lock, and overall size and mod'd handle were perfect.

So, all the mods that Sal mentioned are exactly what I would have wanted!!!

I think G10 is the way to go. Extremely functional, looks fine if that matters, and almost certainly more affordable than CF or titanium. Nothing against those materials, but I really see no advantage over G10 (unless of course you need metal for an integral lock - but I think the compression lock is well-suited for a hvy duty folder). FRN is a bit too flexy, even with liners, for a hard use knife (at least my Dallara DP is).

Wire clip works for me.

So hope this project stays alive. Instant must have for me. :D

Just found this thread and the direction it took. :D I vote for the Ti & G10 combo. I also don't think ZDP189 for the blade is needed, S30V or VG10 would be just fine for me.
