It's basically the color of the tile (faux-marble) that reflects the light from two large desklamps agains white paper 'mini screens'(pasted some A4 printing paper on cardboard. I actually use Photoshop to remove as much of that brownish color as possible. I apply a blue photofilter over the original and then sharpen the image (only once). The rest is luck. I got a bit of extra sunlight from the windows on the day of the D4 pics. I'm actually not too fond of the brownish effect, but I was limited to the materials I could get. I also wipe the blades down with a bit of paper and windex.WhyNot wrote:Wouter,
I love that brownish steel color on your pictures! Are you playing with white balance or using editing software to get this effect? And what do you use to make your blades look so clean?
Great, great photos!

Getting a real stone slab for the background was both too expensive and too heavy. I needed something I could set up quickly and break down again in time for dinner :D . But it does spread the light evenly. So most of the surfaces come out. I definitely rely on Photoshop to get a lighter and brighter image. Trust me, the more you get into this, the more details you see that need improving. Our fellow forumite Ted does some amazing stuff with his photos. Not just in chosing an nice artistic design/background, but also with the lighting.
Me, I've come to accept my 'brownish' pics, because I want to do a lot of volume, reasonably fast, and I have to break up and down a lot.
Thanks for the compliment though! :D

not been here for a long time.....
haven't got a camera anymore, so some stock image will have to do. for some reason i really like this picture. clean and simple, just like the knife...
not really much of a 'collector' anymore nowadays. i just use my knives and buy a replacement every now and then. still have a police and delica, but they don't get much action.
current edc for the last couple years is the military and none other knife, it's still simply the best spydie ever. i'm on my 4th one now, and a new one is incoming, because i broke the tip on my current one twice in a year, so the blade is now only 3.5"/9cm long :) . btw, reprofiling of cpm440-steel to a tip again is a real b*tch, so don't break your tip! :)
plain edge military forever! :spyder:

Some latest pics...
First the Perrin Street Beat (many guys already got this knife at Fred's seminar this week-end...
).
I replaced the techlock with a kydex tongue for IWB carry.

Then comes the Caly III...

Some colors trick with my Delicas wave and ZDP : I switched the handles because I prefered the dark blue on the ZDP...

And last but no least, when the Szabofly meets a former relative...

Twan you and Peter are making us mere amateur photographers feel bad! You have a Szabofly! I wonder how many are "floating" around out there? What's that smaller bali next to the Szabofly? Great photos as well Twan!

Thanks for the kind words but I got no photography skill and my pics are not as good as those knives would deserve. :ojaislandboy wrote:Twan you and Peter are making us mere amateur photographers feel bad! The smaller bali is actually a custom mini version of Laci Szabo/Fred Perrin former collaboration.
Here's a closer shot :

I'm not a big hawk-man myself, but these babies are keepers; Karambit and Endurahawk.

I do love these Micarta Marvels, the Khalsa is a wonderfully useful utility folder. Truly worthy of a 'closer look' :D

(mmmm...can't seem to fix these last two links, they should just show pics, maybe a glitch in the matrix?)

Do not even bother fixing last two links! Seeing those pictures is well worth extra click!
BTW. It does not look like Khalsa's seen much utility use
But I'll take your word for it :D
Thank you for another excellent post!

Well, with these knives I take care not to cut anything harder than the steel itself. I've only had the Khalsa for a month or three and used it mostly in the kitchen and for opening mail, and other daily urban hassles. The bevels were hard to sharpen, as the angle exceeded the 40degree setting on my Sharpmaker. Plus, I do know how to clean a knife! My wife wishes I was so meticulous with other items in the house. :DWhyNot wrote:BTW. It does not look like Khalsa's seen much utility use  But I'll take your word for it :D

Sia,
You are quite the artist! Great shot!
So, which do you like best... the car or the knife?
