New fixed blades you want to see?
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
This has to be pretty close,

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
What I'd like to see is some medium or so blades in tool steels like M4 with G10 or Micarta scales.
Ronin, Reverse, Street Beat, or Bow River, South Fork. That kind of stuff.

I still want this with or without the ring, and maybe Magnacut now!

Oh my goodness YES YES YES A TRILLION TIMES!!!
THAT is one of THE BEST KNIFE DESIGNS I have EVER SEEN. I love that type of tanto and those serrations and the plain edge and with or without the ring. Oh man. You have an amazing mind!

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
Just got mine and it is no doubt a very nice knife and the serrations are an excellent shape very reminiscent of the Caribbean's teeth. I'm really chuffed that Spyderco decided to do the sprint. How I saw the fixed blade Manix though was more along the lines of a fixed LW in the same vein as the Enuff line. Give it a full tang and slimmer FRCP or FRN scales for a more edc'able fixed blade.

I’d love to see a couple of full-salt kitchen knives in either LC or Magnacut. Maybe one based on Vivi’s suggestions in the thread about chef’s knives and also a salty counter critter.
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
I’m partial to Sal’s partial tang fixed blades. Keeps the weight down. Makes them quick in hand and easy to carry. Would love to see the Aqua Salt make a comeback. Not holding out much hope there.

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
Would you buy Dazen's super design he posted above if Spyderco made it? What steel would you like them to make it in?
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
Probably not. It’s lovely but not what I am generally looking for. I did pick up a Ronin 2 recently and really like it alot so never say never.
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
I like it. Plan edge and serrated edge on a tanto. Yes please.

This is a really cool blade shape, I like it.
I think that asymetric style would be suitable to multiple sizes of blade, and be a big hit.
-A SOCP style dagger like shown
-A full size military knife / Bayonet based on the same bladeshape.
The latter especially, multiple militaries have switched to a tanto profile bayonet:

I am so glad. This is another reason I love this forum. So many great innovative thinkers and doers and thoughtful people.
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
I too would buy many miniature bayonets from Spyderco as long as they were all tanto all the time.

This is so cool and amazing. That is among my favorite type of knife. An American Vietnam Veteran who mentored me told me the knife type bayonet is the ultimate knife. If it can survive wartime use it can do all peacetime cutting chores. Spyderco knives are clearly based on two main things: 1 Animal Cutting Tools like claws, teeth, talons, horns and 2 Military Bayonets which themselves are based on ancient cutting tools going back to stone blades.

Mark Greenman you are a knife genius. I agree with all that but I would also like a folder with that design and one concern I have.mark greenman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 3:49 amThis is a really cool blade shape, I like it.

If one edge is plain and the other is serrated but BOTH are sharpened is that LEGALLY CLASSIFIED as a single edge knife with a serrated Top Edge or is it classified as a dagger, double edged?? As you know a traditional dagger has two symmetrical sharpened edges meeting at a point.

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
I am almost certain that it would be regarded as a dagger, although the deffinition may very per state. Even this little guy has a warning on TOPS website instructing you to check the legality of "double edged weapons" in your area. It didn't even occur to me that this might be considered double edged until I saw the warning.

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
They could lose the lanyard hole on every knife ever made as far as I’m concerned. An unnecessary and overemphasised gimmick.vivi wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 11:41 amI would hate to see them do their own take on that knife without scaling up the overall size 10-20%
No knife makes me dislike my genetics more than the Frontier Valley. It's as close to perfect as I've found for a light to medium duty EDC fixed blade. Lovely blade shape, no sharpening notch, nice grind, comes in some steels with really nice sharpening response, fairly priced, etc.
But it's a 3.5 finger grip for me, which is why I sold off all the ones I owned.
Another change it needs in my eyes, is contouring the front of the scales to the tang for better pinch grip ergonomics.
Other than those two nitpicks it's pretty much perfect in my eyes. I'd personally lose the lanyard hole but I know knife companies would never go for that.

Yes about half an inch added to the handle would make big difference to the grip comfort. Kind of what like Esee did to the Izula 2 - another fine little knife deserving of being contemplated by Spyderco.

Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
That's actually a related question I have. On Spyderco fixed blades (folder choils have several threads on this forum already), do you like choils or is that wasted space and you prefer pure sharpened edge from base of hilt, handle to the point? Generally I do not like choils but on some designs they are okay.
Re: New fixed blades you want to see?
No choil. Edge all the way to the handle like a Mora companion. No sharpening notch for things to get hung up on and reduce cutting edge. No funky plunge lines to get in the way when sharpening.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
