Re: UpTern!!
I just noticed on mine that the grind on the show side is really wonky. Looks like the sharpener was having a bad day or they were left handed.

Re: UpTern!!
The more I use this and fidget with it, the more I like it. On a knife this sized and smaller (think Cricket, D'fly, etc) the stainless handle is OK and lends a whole different hand feel versus "softer" materials.

Re: UpTern!!
Picked mine up from Fradon Lock this morning. Once again Spyderco's budget knives are 2nd to none. This thing is so well done and has such a smooth opening/closing. It drops shut. Really feels like a little bit bigger Dragonfly in hand. Good work Sal.
Re: UpTern!!
Being a lover of the UKPK and the Urban, I picked up the Tern and think it's a great variation on the theme. I absolutely will get one of these and maybe more to give away.

Re: UpTern!!
I haven't been interested in a steel handle for a long time, but oddly, I am now.
Re: UpTern!!
Can anyone give feedback on the UpTern v. the Byrd version?
I'm carrying the Byrd version as my 'beater knife to hand non-knife people' and I'm actually pretty impressed with it. How much of an upgrade is the UpTern?

I purchased one and really loved the feel, and proportions. The overall thinness of the knife was really cool. The pocket clip is also a wee bit smaller. Unfortunately it just has a number of small issues that caused me to send it back. I will most likely get another because I was thoroughly impressed with the design.
I now own a Dragonfly2 and am again impressed overall.

Welcome aboard Varossdg!
The Dragonfly is an excellent design and it should serve you well. Hopefully you will get a better example of the UpTern when you try again.

Re: UpTern!!
I've gut my UpTern and i really like the size and Blade shape.
It has some genes from the Calypso Jr. / Delica and has a very good size and ergos.
Whit a little wider blade it could be the imaginary Dragonfly XL.
Please Sal bring other scale materials and even better a Sprint Run whit a premium steel and fancy color.

Re: UpTern!!
I have one out for delivery today. Excited to try it out.
Re: UpTern!!
I received it. It's cool. I like the design and pinned construction.
This is the first value Spyderco I've bought in a while and glad I did.
The blade and edge shapes seem rather useful.

Re: UpTern!!
I am still enjoying mine, despite also having $$$$ of premium Spydercos in my daily life. For a budget model it is very nice. If you like SS handles, pinned lockbacks it is great. It is sleek and is in and out of the pocket easily.
For my size large hands it feels great. Closed it is a little longer than a Chap, with about the same edge length. It is slim and dense.
I have not tried it clipless, as I often do in this size range.
As I noted in the value line thread... My only nitpick about my UpTern is that the lockbar sinks slightly below the scales on lockup. It is purely an aesthetic/ haptic issue.
The hafting is excellent in the closed position and there is a tiny irregularity in the edge bevel. All other F&F is great.
As some noted here or elsewhere it may be possible to depress the lockbar incidentally if you really reef on the handle. I have not been able to simulate a situation where it would unlock under use. I consider it not a problem for me, but could be different for different hands.

Re: UpTern!!
Mine has nice fit and finish. Lockbar is fine. Only niggle is that there are no washers and it's going to take awhile so smooth out the opening and closing. I got this partly due to the handle shape and size, but also to give a SS model a try and this was a great entry point. It fits my medium hand nicely. I don't carry it every day and in thin business slacks it would no doubt feel heavy.
