I wouldn’t go as far to call it a spike. but I sorta agree that they maybe could have kept it more rounded, but still made more spacious, take the c23 renegade for example. not only to be more reminiscent of the original military model but it generally looks like an ergonomic advantage having a slightly curved bottom of the choil to give your finger more of a versatile placement. rather than coming to a point.

Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
does anyone actually put their finger where that spike is? my index finger goes in the index choil and my middle finger behind that spike on every knife with that style choil.
to me this design is superior because there's more space in the part of the choil where my finger goes, vs the military 1 where there's more wasted space and a smaller choil.

Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
It’s more about general comfort. If you’re in a choked up grip on the choil, would you rather your index finger being pressured against a corner point or it be rounded and have a little more wiggle room.
Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
I'd rather it be pointed because my finger goes forward of the point.Tristan_david2001 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 8:45 pmIt’s more about general comfort. it doesn't go in the rounded area on the Military 1. That design means a smaller grip area in the choil and less comfort. If the in between space is pointed that means the index choil itself is wider, so it offers a better grip.
If you guys are gripping along the area between the index choil and first finger groove behind it, that's an odd grip I never use. So the point is no issue.
I've compared the Para 1 & 2 side by side and the 2 has a much better choil for me. No competition.
Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
Might seem simple, but I see "larger choil" as "fits more finger sizes" so it's a plus without a doubt.

The Military choil (and Paramilitary choil for that matter) always felt like an afterthought to me compared to other models, and I think it has to do with how narrow it is and how it doesn't lock your finger into place like other models. I think I agree with you on the choil thing, I think I'll like it better this way. We'll see.
We have like 4 threads going on with this Military 1 vs 2 debate. It's impossible to keep track of it all.
Here's the score as I see it.
1) Are all of you Military 1 supporters rushing out to buy one right now today? No, probably not. So, what are you fighting for? Maybe it's for the potential of sprints and exclusives down the road? We haven't seen a Military 1 variant literally in years, and they can still do sprints and exclusives of the Military 1 any time they want (just gonna say M1 and M2 from now on). So are you arguing to keep the M1 around just for warm and fuzzy feelings? Nostalgia? Unfortunately I think the M1 is most likely doomed unless it gets some sprint and exclusive love. Hype sells and there just isn't any hype in the M1 bucket anymore.
2. We will likely be debating the lock issue for the next decade. There are pros and cons to either one, and there really is no wrong answer, there are only preferences and none of us can tell the next guy what they prefer is wrong. We can continue beating this dead horse, it's a discussion forum after all, but it's clear that many of us just do not and will not see eye to eye here. We're locked in an endless cycle of rebuttalling each other into oblivion.
3. My money will go towards whichever one gets the steels I want AND gets them with serrations, excluding the possibility (likelihood) that the M2 gets a sprint in a steel that I just can't live without. That said, the M2 isn't even on my radar in S30V, the changes being made just aren't enough to entice me when I already have 5 M1's in a selection of wonderful steels to play with and I suspect that this will ultimately be the reality for most people. If nothing else, the switch to a 4 way clip and being "new" will be enough to get most new buyers to choose the M2, because "NEW AND IMPROVED!" is a proven selling tactic and I think the knife market in general very strongly prefers tip up.

Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
Did anyone happen see a new Dyad or other prototype double bladed folder? It feels like it's been a while since it was discussed.
Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
There was what looked to be a Dyad in the prototype display. I did not hold it. So don't know much more.PeaceInOurTime wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:32 pmDid anyone happen see a new Dyad or other prototype double bladed folder? It feels like it's been a while since it was discussed.

There was a double compression lock dyad in the prototype cabinet. I handled it twice. The more one looks at it, the more interesting it becomes.PeaceInOurTime wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:32 pmDid anyone happen see a new Dyad or other prototype double bladed folder? Thanks! I hope someone can elaborate a bit more on the details.
Blade length? Finger choils? Clip position options? Lanyard hole? Are the blades opposing or facing the same direction? Is it a Salt model? Blade steel? Handle material? Where will it be made?
Re: Are you going to Blade Show?
Don't know about blade length exactly. It wasn't huge, but not small either. Maybe around 3.5 inch blades? They were longer than one would expect given the handle length due to some truly impressive engineering.PeaceInOurTime wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 6:43 am...

The blades were on either end of the knife.
I don't recall any forward choils.
There was a 3-screw clip. Don't recall the specifics beyond that. Given there were blades on both ends, does this end up mattering? It would be both tip up AND tip down regardless of the ambi-ness of the clip position.
The handle material was G-10 on the prototype. It had 3 liners (maybe? I don't know what one would call the piece of metal between the 2 blades a 'liner' or not or if there's a more correct word for that part). But again, it's a prototype. subject to change.
Surely not a salt.
No idea on the blade steel. Probably not relevant as it was a prototype.

I missed all mention of this...it sounds really exciting, thanks for sharing and updating!
So it goes.

That was in the prototype case. It looked like a very rough model. Not production prototype level. That's all I got.Buddafucco wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 4:49 pmHow about Triple B Handmade's 15v folder? Any news or info?
