Potential Toxic Green Native 5 Salt with LC200N. Scale color change. Lockbar doesn't look coated, so wonder what that is about.

Native5 Salt used to be LC200N with Yellow FRN. However, Native5 Salt changed to MagnaCut with Yellow FRN (announced but not released yet). I guess now there will be two Native5 Salt folders (more if you add serrations and DLC): LC200N with Green FRN and MagnaCut with Yellow FRN.

Non coated lockbar is interesting to see. I wonder if the model shown on the cover is the actual production sample or just a prototype/rendering.

Could it be an LC200N lockbar?

That's what I first thought, but even with the same metal you can have galvanic corrosion I believe. I think the coating acts as an insulator.

Mushroom may be correct that it is just a prototype pieced together for the pic.

Do any of you have a lc200n native 5 salt with a coated lockbar???

The only ones with coated lockbars I saw were prototype pictures. I know mine is not coated and as far as I know none of the production native 5 salts have a coated lockbar.

Both of my Native Salts (PE and SE) have satin lockbars. The date codes are JR and FS.

Hmmm, galvanic corrosion is an issue of dissimilar metals with different electrode potentials. You can deal with that to some extent by using insulating coatings (until they wear) but that isn't necessary when using the same material treated the same way because the electrode potentials are the same, no electron flow, no active circuit without the battery.

I'd guess the lock bar is LC200N, I wonder if they'll do the same thing with the Magna N5?

What does consumer direct only mean on the Chief sprint? Are they only available on the Spyderco site and factory store?

I suspect the Chief is a dealer exclusive, but they cannot reveal which one yet. Consumer direct could mean that it will not make it to distributors.

The Massad Ayoob Sprint Run with CPM-CRU-WEAR (PlainEdge and SpyderEdge) and Gray G-10 for $210 are quite reasonable.

Image
Designed by world-renowned firearms expert Massad Ayoob and originally introduced in 2001, the Massad Ayoob folding knife featured a distinctive negative angle between its blade and handle. This aligns the blade with the bones of the forearm to ensure a more direct transfer of force during thrusting and cutting motions and shortens the blade’s opening arc. This long-awaited Sprint Run expression of Ayoob’s design features a blade crafted from CPM CRU-WEAR®—a specially formulated air-hardening tool steel renowned for its edge holding and toughness. Its handle features full, skeletonized stainless steel liners, a sturdy back lock mechanism, distinctive gray peel-ply-textured G-10 scales, and a black-coated four-position pocket clip that provides a choice of left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry.
