I am thinking the CPM stainless would fit the military perfectly. Tough, stainless and high edge stability. Yes I think I want one.

How bout a Crucarta Military sprint? I'd pony up for that.

I think many people would! I'd hope it was production and not a sprint though.

... and should be done before or even instead a Para 3 Crucarta version..
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):

I'll be all over a Cruwear/micarta version. I think it's the best platform for testing steels besides a mule.

Yes, this would be great. In the meantime I would settle for AEB-L or CPM-154.

Sal,

Is there any way you could let the forum know if there will be any new Militaries coming in 2021 (production, exclusives, sprints)?

It seems that every time there is a new exclusive or sprint, half of the responses from members here are "wish it was a Military", or "I hope a Military is next in this combo", or "I would have bought it if it was a Military"! :(

If there are truly no new Militaries on the horizon, could we request a Military Sprint as a forum via a series of polls? Not a "forum knife" per se (writing on the blade is a huge turnoff for me and many others), but a regular sprint, requested via forum polls?

I've got a feeling the Military 2 is very close, and standard Military is selling slow and/or production has been ramped down because of either. I know it was said that the two would remain in the lineup together, but I remember the same thing said about the Paramilitary and it didn't take long for it to die off.

I hope that is not the case. I hope Sal will chime in and give us some hope that there will be a few more liner lock Millies before that happens.

I'm expecting a compression lock version. It's Spyderco's premier lock, it will sell like crazy. It'll have a roomier choil like the Police 4 and Stretch 2 got and 4 way clip and full skeletonized liners. Looking at the lineup there really aren't many liner locks left that aren't value options. It's just not a lock that people get excited for anymore.

I’m betting the liner lock version of the Military will still remain to some degree. Some people may even try out the upcoming Military 2 and end up preferring the liner lock version.

The Military is the only liner lock design I will carry anymore. Not because I don’t get excited about liner locks, but because the liner lock on the Military inspires more confidence in me than any other liner locking knives.

I sure hope you’re right! I love the liner lock on the Military, and like you said it’s a cut above other models with the same mechanism. It also sets the Military model apart from the more mainstream PM2 and Para 3. Compression locks are nice and fidgety, sure, but I appreciate the added slimness that a backlock or liner lock offers (more so the backlock, but liners can be pretty thin too.)

Having spent some years with my now five Millies, I have no interest in a PM2 XL—which you could well be describing—in spite of my wanting these very features before I had spent any time with a Millie.

This would be really sad. Imho in a model like the Millie and its inteded use a linerlock is superior over a comp.lock in almost any aspect (ease of use, safety, ergos of the handle...)

I started a poll once about keeping the linerlock Millie in the lineup, there one can read my reasoning:

And here is what Sal replied (stating that the linerlock Millie will stay in the lineup even if there will be a comp.lock Millie 2):

Yeah for the record I'm definitely not pushing for that, it's just a prediction. I'll check out whatever new Military comes, but I'm fine with the current version and I've gone on record saying the liner lock is perfect for this model. If anything I'd maybe be more interested in a back lock version but I probably wouldn't be super excited for the version I described before, even though I still think it would sell like crazy and be an immediate success. Maybe the Power Lock will finally come through.

I feel like I should stock up on liner lock Millies, JIC. Nothing crazy, maybe just three to five good users in different steels.

You could have counted me among those who wanted an updated Military with a Comp lock. I no longer do, after a good year edc’ing the cruwear millie. It’s the first liner lock I really like, though I haven’t had many of them. A crucarta or Zcarta version would be really awesome! Or the new sooper secret CPM steel. Or K390! Something awesome and tough.

Beyond the stop pin and lanyard tube, I’m not sure what’s different between my older cruwear millie and the current version. It would be awesome if Spyderco could fit another 1/2” of blade in the same handle (channeling Wartstein here :p )

The C-36 Military model has been in Spyderco's main line up since about the mid 90s and I don't see it going anywhere except up!. This is a permanent model just like the Endura, Delica, Police, Harpy ect>> no there is no danger at all of Spyderco ever deleting the C-36 Military from their line up.

However I won't rule out some new modifications later on down the road. Because Spyderco is constantly trying to improve as time goes forward. If there is a shortage of C-36 Military models it's because they've simply sold out and are currently short of stock. The Military and Para2 are truly the quintesscential and ideal models to usher in new blade steels and other new features. They would truly be foolish to discontinue such an icon of Spyder-History. Nope it ain't gonna happen any time soon>> I look for the C-36 Military and Para2 both to be in the line up 10 years from now.

I've said the exact same thing about the liner lock of the C-36 Military. And I've put at least 3 Military models I've owned over the years through some pretty brutal jobs and I've never had any of those locking systems fail on me ever.

My fav so far has been my M390 Military. I would love to try one in Cruwear if I ever get the opportunity. I've also got one in CTS-XHP and I'm pretty fond of it as well. I EDCed that M390 Military for about 4 years. It took my G-10 Sprint Run C-60 Ayoob model to take it out of my daily regimen. But I'll never permanently retire the M390 Millie. I still regard it as an excellent outdoor blade.
